It happens each winter, and has for over 35 years. Every time the snow starts to fall late in the evening before a school day, the dreams begin again for Billy Stone. They are always the same - there's a dark tunnel, and there's blood, lots of blood, and someone is screaming.

Would you consider the audio edition of Snow Day to be better than the print version?

I only listened to the audio book but I think that having the print edition would be good as well. Seems like a good night read.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Snow Day?

There were a few parts that really reminded me of growing up in the Northeast. I also did a lot of the stuff the main character did, minus the dead body and all.

Have you listened to any of Allwyn Baskin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No first timer.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Made me think about growing up and protecting my kids.

    Any additional comments?

Great read for teens and adults. Book is very memorable, lots of substance and a great new voice. Looking forward to more from Dan Maurer.

Here is the story of Jerry Weintraub: the self-made, Brooklyn-born, Bronx-raised impresario, Hollywood producer, legendary deal maker, and friend of politicians and stars. No matter where nature has placed him - the club rooms of Brooklyn, the Mafia dives of New York's Lower East Side, the wilds of Alaska, or the hills of Hollywood - he has found a way to put on a show and sell tickets at the door.

Ron says: "How could you not really like Jerry Weintraub??"

Based on more than 40 interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.

I knew a bit about Jobs and Apple from being a fan of the products and all the news around the time of his death. The book is a really great read. Jobs has a really fascinating life story. From adoption to a legacy that will live for decades and beyond. Hats off to Isaacson, I'll be sure to check out more of his books.

  • Nightwoods: A Novel

Charles Frazier puts his remarkable gifts in the service of a lean, taut narrative while losing none of the transcendent prose, virtuosic storytelling, and insight into human nature that have made him one of the most beloved and celebrated authors in the world. Now, with his brilliant portrait of Luce, a young woman who inherits her murdered sister’s troubled twins, Frazier has created his most memorable heroine. Before the children, Luce was content with the reimbursements of the rich Appalachian landscape....

Fans of Cold Mountain will not be disappointed. This is a great character book that is dark sad and satisfying. It reads like poetry and that might not be everyone's bag but you can really see the story, sad and dark as it is. Loved it.

  • Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

Annie M. says: "Hillenbrand could make even laundry fascinating!"
"Great story, like three books in one"
    Overall

Hillenbrand weaves a great story about a depression era kid who becomes a world class athlete, a fighter pilot, a POW and a hero. Just as good as Seabiscuit.

I was a little late to the party on this book. It is great, very gripping start to finish, the pace reminded me of The Perfect Storm. I read John's book on Pat Tillman and it was great as well.

First, the unthinkable: a security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes the monstrous product of a chilling military experiment. Then, the unspeakable: a night of chaos and carnage gives way to sunrise on a nation, and ultimately a world, forever altered. All that remains for the stunned survivors is the long fight ahead and a future ruled by fear—of darkness, of death, of a fate far worse.

Nicole says: "You love it or you hate it..."

Sometimes a little long in the set up but this is the best book I have read in years. The movie version which is all ready in dev will be great if they do not screw it up. Really, really good book, not at all about vampires. Great characters, fascinating story with lots of twists.

It takes too long to kick into gear but it is far superior to most of the other leading mystery authors out there, bar none. It is R rated but intelligent and engaging.

After a decade spent in isolation in the Ugandan jungles thinking about stuff, David Cross has written his first book. Known for roles on the small screen such as "never-nude" Tobias Funke on Arrested Development and the role of "David" in Mr. Show with Bob And David, as well as a hugely successful stand-up routine full of sharp-tongued rants and rages, Cross has carved out his place in American comedy.

    Aaron says: "Oh, David"
"all over the place but diferent in a good way"
    Overall

Cross is funny and inventive. The book was a tad too long and self indulgent. Worth a listen.
