Running late to the bakery one foggy morning, Audrey strikes a vehicle. Emerging from her car into the fog, she discovers she hit a motor scooter. But there’s no rider in sight. Just blood. The absence of the driver is a mystery, especially to Sergeant Jack Mansfield, the detective and church member responsible for firing Audrey's pastor husband from his pulpit. The scooter belongs to Jack’s wife, Julie, a teacher at the local high school, who has vanished… like morning fog.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not the best I've listened to but certainly not the worst. Characters a bit stereotyped.

Have you listened to any of Nan Gurley’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The narrator did a good job.

Dear Anna, What I have to tell you is difficult to write, but I know it will be far more difficult for you to hear, and I'm so sorry. The unfinished letter is the only clue Tara and Emerson have to the reason behind their close friend Noelle's suicide. Everything they knew about Noelle - her calling as a midwife, her passion for causes, her love for her friends and family - described a woman who embraced life. Yet there was so much they didn't know. With the discovery of the letter and its heartbreaking secret, Noelle's friends begin to uncover the truth about this complex woman who touched each of their lives.

Would you ever listen to anything by Diane Chamberlain again?

    not sure

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Inflection and feeling that might not have otherwise been possible

Was The Midwife's Confession worth the listening time?

sort of--the story felt a bit contrived to me and some of the medical aspects were questionable to me as a nurse

The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

This book has several stories inside the original story and is well-written. The narrator does a great job with accents and I found I liked the book more than I thought when starting it!

What about Edoardo Ballerini’s performance did you like?

    His command of the accents

In January 1945, in the waning months of World War II, a small group of people begin the longest journey of their lives: an attempt to cross the remnants of the Third Reich, from Warsaw to the Rhine if necessary, to reach the British and American lines.

Among the group is 18-year-old Anna Emmerich, the daughter of Prussian aristocrats. There is her lover, Callum Finella, a 21-year-old Scottish prisoner of war who was brought from the stalag to her family's farm as forced labour.

If you could sum up Skeletons at the Feast in three words, what would they be?

    Compelling, overwhelmingly sad

What did you like best about this story?

The depth of the characters against the backdrop of eastern Europe during WWII

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Almost. I could barely put it down

    Any additional comments?

This is a story of the tragic treatment of the Jews during WWII as well as the brutality of war and the loss of humanity by soldiers.
When I started it, I nearly put it down as it was hard to listen to the details of the horrors.
However, it is well written and the story of the characters is so compelling that I found myself creating time to listen to it.

When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early 40s, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.... Pagford is not what it at first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the town's council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.

Meet Harold Fry, recently retired. He lives in a small English village with his wife, Maureen, who seems irritated by almost everything he does, even down to how he butters his toast. Little differentiates one day from the next. Then one morning the mail arrives, and within the stack is a letter addressed to Harold from a woman he hasn't seen or heard from in 20 years. Queenie Hennessy is in hospice and is writing to say goodbye. Harold pens a quick reply and, leaving Maureen to her chores, heads to the corner mailbox. But then Harold has a chance encounter, one that convinces him that he absolutely must deliver his message to Queenie in person.

In the best-selling tradition of Rescuing Sprite comes the story of a puppy brought back from the brink of death, and the family he adopted. Heartwarming and redemptive, Oogy is the story of the people who were determined to rescue this dog against all odds, and of the family who took him home, named him "Oogy" (an affectionate derivative of ugly), and made him one of their own.
