"Ehhh"
If there were things I could change about this book I would choose two things. The first would be the endless political comments. The second would be how every female character is either a grumpy spinster or a complete moron. I'm not sure if that's what the author intended but if so, he must really not like women.
He has an amazing voice until he does a woman or a childs voice. It turns a little too nasaly and whiney. With that said, I would not object to listening to this man's voice again.
Yes, it inspired me to find another book by another author.
"As boring as his father"
Anyone who reads the steaming piles that King puts out will enjoy the steaming pile his son got published. If you long for a well written, intelligent, origional horror story, you won't like this book.
This story's plot has been done in books 3 times and in 2 different movies. It's in no way unique. I half hopped he wouldn't follow in his fathers hack like footsteps but, sadly he does. The language isn't as bad as most people have reviewed. The swearing isn't overly done, not that I am opposed to such language. The most disgusting part of this book was adding in New Yorks 9/11 attacks. There was no reason for it, it added nothing to the story. The fact it was added into this book is more ghoulish then the books villian. I mean it's amazingly tasteless. That's where I stopped listening to this farce.
Mulgrew did a fine job of narating. Sadly, the book she was given to read sucked so badly. I will look for her again in hopes that she's given an origional and interesting book.
This book made me feel disgust for this author. A tasteless, plagiarizing hack indeed.
"So..."
Couldn't say..
No, just the narrator.
This is basically how the narration went:Ifyoucanreadthisreallyreallyfastthenyouwillknowhowthenarratorspeaks. He doesn't pause between words, sentences, paragraphs or chapters. I have no idea how he was even able to breath. He does No character voices so it sounds like one person is talking to himself Really fast and his voice is monotoned as well as obnoxious. I couldn't get through more than a half hour of this book. It literally left me drained and tired out just trying to figure out what was going on, why, who was who and what they were doing.
I have no idea, I couldn't get passed the narrator to make that call.
For the love of all that's holy, people recording these audiobooks, Listen to them before releasing them to the public.
"I liked it up until the end."
The story was creative until the ending. As you get closer to the ending the story just goes down hill.
Yes
Nope
"Nothing to rave about..."
There was nothing scary about this book. In fact it was pretty boring.
Probably not. I heard this was one of his best books. If that's the case, I'm not impressed.
ANyone who didn't make characters sound like hokey cartoon characters.
Bordum.
If you want a good, old school haunted house book, check out Hell House. It's the story this one was ripped off from.
"Lame to the core"
If it actually had a plot and a writer with a clue.
No
The narrater did well with the book he had. I feel bad that the poor guy had to read the entire book.
It was highly disapointing. After reading the reviews, I thought it was going to be kind of like the story "The Screwfly Solution." All that it was was pretty much like hearing HBO porn read to you by your uncle. It was just boring. I'm not a prude but, if you have to write about people masterbating at least 4 times within a 15 minute time span, your writing skills are seriously in question. I realize that the women are supposed to be "hypersexual" and all that but, there actually is a limit. We get it, they turn into nymphos, get on with the plot... oh, that's right, there isn't one. The 20 minutes of Ketchum whining about the book before it even started should have tipped me off to how the book was going to go.
If you're a lonely guy, you'll probably like this book. If you have a brain and want a good scarey story, search elsewhere.
"What the fu..dge did I just listen to?"
There are some Very sexist reviews of this narrators job. I've listened to some amazing female narrators. With that said, I can honestly say this woman is a terrible narrator. Anyone would have done a better job, male or female. Her character voices were just laughable. I couldn't get passed 5 minutes of part 1. I went and bought the book instead.
No! The book is good, the narrator is horrible.
This will teach me to buy a book on my phone while on a trip without being able to listen to the sample first.
"Just "ok""
Some of the stories are entertaining, nothing is scarey, some are just amazingly boring. It's hit or miss. The narrator is really good. The most obnoxious part of these stories is the Endless self degridation in the authors notes at the start of EVERY story. So thats 26 times you have to listen to whining. It really ruins the entire book. After the 8th one I lost any sympathy I had.
"Interesting..."
The story is a little Too simmilar to something by Lovecraft. But then, that's what Lovecraft wanted, to be emulated. It's humorous in dark places and "in the now" you could say. I didn't like the ending and the plot is pretty predictable. But all in all a good listen. The narraror did a fine job. He has a fitting and pleasant voice. I would recommend this book unless you have a Strong aversion to insects.
"uhhggg"
5 minutes in and I couldn't listen to this anymore. I thought it was something other then smut.
