John Lee does an ok job of narrating. He seems a little bored reading this book and frankly I can't blame him. It's good not to hear Winston Churchill like voices and that amazingly insulting and inappropriate asian accent. My disapointment lays with the book itself. And that's painful to admit. I adored books 1 - 3 of this series. But this one really doesn't go anywhere. It's like listening to someone talk about their vacation videos. Between Briane's Endless stories about riding around getting no where and doing nothing, a queens mental break down brooding over everything repeatedly (which sounds more interesting then it is), and hearing about two childrens temper tantrums, I find myself only listening because I spent two credits.
It's like Martin just wanted to cash in on peoples interest from the previous books, and he has at least 2 more on the way, but it's painfully obvious he's lost his passion for the characters. I can only hope that the next book, IF I choose to buy it, actually goes somewhere instead of dragging on and on and on. There's So much that could have been done in this book. It's a terrible shame and I kind of feel ripped off.
None of them were scary.
It was like having Carl Sagen, whom I loved but spoke very, very slowly and nasally, on horse tranquilizers reading you the dictionary.
I'm beginning to think the folks who hire these narrators don't bother to listen to them before they record them.
This book would have been much better if not for the muslim bashing, pro-Christian and Endless preaching. I realize what the title is however, I thought it was more along the lines of something such as "Satan's hammer" about an asteroid. I was wrong. It's preachy. Also, I'm neither a republican nor a democrat so, the last thing I want is for my entertainment to be one sided or Any sided propaganda.
Write books to entertain, not to preach and spread hate filled propaganda. If I wanted either of those two I'd go to a church or watch the news.
The endless bashing of muslims. Coryell makes it all too clear he hates muslims, in a sickening way. He needs to grow up and realize everyone in the world will not be little cones of him, thank goodness.
Kuch has a good voice. His tone is nice, his voices are kind of similar but you can tell different characters are talking.
All of them.
I wonder how many white hooded meetings Coryell missed to write this trash.
This book is for anyone who has insomnia. The narrator has a nice voice but no range. His mundane story parts are the same as his scary story parts. Such as one instance a character is quasi violated by a ghost. It Should have been scary. It was boring. He has a very nice voice if he were reading a historical novel but, he's not for horror stories.
Someone that can pull off female voices and change tone when something scary happens.
I would listen to this narrator again and read another book by this author. I just will avoid them when they are put together.
Anyone who reads the steaming piles that King puts out will enjoy the steaming pile his son got published. If you long for a well written, intelligent, origional horror story, you won't like this book.
This story's plot has been done in books 3 times and in 2 different movies. It's in no way unique. I half hopped he wouldn't follow in his fathers hack like footsteps but, sadly he does. The language isn't as bad as most people have reviewed. The swearing isn't overly done, not that I am opposed to such language. The most disgusting part of this book was adding in New Yorks 9/11 attacks. There was no reason for it, it added nothing to the story. The fact it was added into this book is more ghoulish then the books villian. I mean it's amazingly tasteless. That's where I stopped listening to this farce.
Mulgrew did a fine job of narating. Sadly, the book she was given to read sucked so badly. I will look for her again in hopes that she's given an origional and interesting book.
This book made me feel disgust for this author. A tasteless, plagiarizing hack indeed.
No, just the narrator.
This is basically how the narration went:Ifyoucanreadthisreallyreallyfastthenyouwillknowhowthenarratorspeaks. He doesn't pause between words, sentences, paragraphs or chapters. I have no idea how he was even able to breath. He does No character voices so it sounds like one person is talking to himself Really fast and his voice is monotoned as well as obnoxious. I couldn't get through more than a half hour of this book. It literally left me drained and tired out just trying to figure out what was going on, why, who was who and what they were doing.
I have no idea, I couldn't get passed the narrator to make that call.
For the love of all that's holy, people recording these audiobooks, Listen to them before releasing them to the public.
The story was creative until the ending. As you get closer to the ending the story just goes down hill.
There was nothing scary about this book. In fact it was pretty boring.
Probably not. I heard this was one of his best books. If that's the case, I'm not impressed.
ANyone who didn't make characters sound like hokey cartoon characters.
If you want a good, old school haunted house book, check out Hell House. It's the story this one was ripped off from.
If it actually had a plot and a writer with a clue.
The narrater did well with the book he had. I feel bad that the poor guy had to read the entire book.
It was highly disapointing. After reading the reviews, I thought it was going to be kind of like the story "The Screwfly Solution." All that it was was pretty much like hearing HBO porn read to you by your uncle. It was just boring. I'm not a prude but, if you have to write about people masterbating at least 4 times within a 15 minute time span, your writing skills are seriously in question. I realize that the women are supposed to be "hypersexual" and all that but, there actually is a limit. We get it, they turn into nymphos, get on with the plot... oh, that's right, there isn't one. The 20 minutes of Ketchum whining about the book before it even started should have tipped me off to how the book was going to go.
If you're a lonely guy, you'll probably like this book. If you have a brain and want a good scarey story, search elsewhere.
There are some Very sexist reviews of this narrators job. I've listened to some amazing female narrators. With that said, I can honestly say this woman is a terrible narrator. Anyone would have done a better job, male or female. Her character voices were just laughable. I couldn't get passed 5 minutes of part 1. I went and bought the book instead.
No! The book is good, the narrator is horrible.
This will teach me to buy a book on my phone while on a trip without being able to listen to the sample first.
If there were things I could change about this book I would choose two things. The first would be the endless political comments. The second would be how every female character is either a grumpy spinster or a complete moron. I'm not sure if that's what the author intended but if so, he must really not like women.
He has an amazing voice until he does a woman or a childs voice. It turns a little too nasaly and whiney. With that said, I would not object to listening to this man's voice again.
Yes, it inspired me to find another book by another author.
