In The War God's Own, Bahzell had managed to stop a war by convincing Baron Tellian, leader of the Sothoii, to "surrender" to him, the War God's champion. Now, he has journeyed to the Sothoii Wind Plain to oversee the parole he granted to Tellian and his men, to represent the Order of Tomanak, the War God, and to be an ambassador for the hradani. What's more, the flying coursers of the Sothoii have accepted Bahzell as a wind rider-the first hradani wind rider in history.

I have really enjoyed all the stories in this series. They are relatively light reading - unlike some sf/fantasy books (for example Modesitt), there are not significant underlying ethical or moral commentary. However, they are great tales about people choosing to fight against evil in a well developed world. The author does not leave strands of unanswered questions, though each book sets up the next.
What makes these books great is the narration. the narrator's voice are distinct, the pacing great, and the emphasis is all in the right places. Master story telling.

Though a small town at heart, Lawrenceton, Georgia, has its dark side - and its crime buffs. One of them is librarian Aurora "Roe" Teagarden, a member of the Real Murders Club, which meets once a month to analyze famous cases. It's a harmless pastime - until the night she finds a member killed in a manner that eerily resembles the crime the club was about to discuss.

I really enjoy Charlaine Harris as a writer but wasn't sure about how she would do with a straightforward murder mystery, which is how I would classify this book. Turns out I could not go to bed till I found out how it ended. The murderer is not who I thought it was...

Anna never knew werewolves existed until the night she survived a violent attack…and became one herself. After three years at the bottom of the pack, she’d learned to keep her head down and never, ever trust dominant males. But Anna is that rarest kind of werewolf: an Omega. And one of the most powerful werewolves in the country will recognize her value as a pack member—and as his mate.

This novella is the start of the alpha and Omega stories. They are about a young woman recently turned werewolf and much older werewolf who becomes her husband. Here is the back story to Anna and Charles. Sort of a love story but really well written fantasy as well. Definitely recommend getting it to read first if you are going to read the rest of the series. It fills in the stories.

Bahzell Bahnakson of the Horse Stealer hradani had never wanted to be the champion of the War God. Unfortunately, the War God had insisted. Which was how he had found himself among hostile strangers in the Empire of the Axe - except that that was only the least of his problems. For a start, there was the Order of Tomanak, who were horrified that their deity had chosen a hradani as champion, and were resolved to rectify the matter in a most unpleasant fashion.

Dorina Basarab is a dhampir - half-human, half-vampire. Subject to uncontrollable rages, most dhampirs live very short, very violent lives. So far Dory has managed to maintain her sanity by unleashing her anger on those demons and vampires who deserve killing. Now Dory's vampire father has come back into her life. Her uncle Dracula (yes, the Dracula), infamous even among vampires for his cruelty and murderous ways, has escaped his prison.

I discovered Karen Chance in Strange Brew and loved "Vegas Odds." When the sale included a Dorina Basarab book, I bought the first 2 books in the series. These books are well written and I think the narrator does a very good job.
The problem is that there are too many scenes that involve sexual violence. The sex is, for the most part, totally gratuitous. That would not be enough to downgrade the story but these include rape and sadism. I enjoy neither. The story would be much better without these scenes.

Unfortunately for them, this problem is about to cross over to their world very quickly because evil Gerald is searching for new worlds to conquer.

I loved the Accidental Sorcerer's wit and humor. The series has villains that are true villains. By Witches Inc, most of the wit and humor was missing. In this book, the series has turned to a form of horror and the ending was distressing. Since I read for light entertainment and not stress inducing, I won't be reading the next book.

Gerald Dunwoody is a wizard. Just not a particularly good one. He's blown up a factory, lost his job, and there's a chance that he's not really a Third Grade wizard after all. So it's off to New Ottosland to be the new Court Wizard for King Lional. It's a shame that King Lional isn't the vain, self-centered young man he appeared to be. With a princess in danger, a talking bird who can't stay out of trouble, and a kingdom to save, Gerald soon suspects that he might be out of his depth.

This old fashioned fantasy, which relies on archetypal characters rather than monsters, is a mastery of sly humor and a strong understanding of people. One could honestly say that its monsters are some of the characters whose humanity is not contestable.
The narration is superb. Mr. Hoye captures the characters and delivers the story without cracking up. I would never have managed to do so - I have laughed till I cried and the muscles in my face hurt.

In Catalyst, award-winning authors Anne McCaffrey and Elizabeth Ann Scarborough introduced listeners to the beguiling Barque Cats: spacefaring felines who serve aboard starships as full-fledged members of the crew. Highly evolved, the cats share an almost telepathic bond with their minders, or Cat Persons — until, suddenly, there is no “almost” about it, and a particular Barque Cat, Chester, learns to ex- change thoughts with his human friend, Jubal. Other cats soon gain the same ability.

I have most of the books by both these authors, but mostly in paperback. I was expecting a wonderful and enchanting story that I could not "put down." This book just came off flat. I don't know if it is because of the narration or the story or the combination. The narration was a major factor for me. I think I would like it better in paper back...

My advice, if you like the authors, and the barque cats, then I would borrow it from the library. That way if it comes off flat, you are not out anything. If you love it, you can get it and listen

I got this book after listening to Home Improvements, and on my niece's advice. I bought just the first book, in case I did not like it. Then when I finished it, impatiently muttered about my connection speed when I bought and downloaded the next book. And I remembered to download the rest on my way to bed so that I did not have to wait when I finished book 2.
