Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I have loved sci-fi from childhood and actually remembered one of the stories. A great way to spend some time while driving. As there are 3 stories, there are natural places to stop and take a break if you like.

I love listening to books after I have watched the movie. The story is always great and the differences...what was left out and what was added in...are fascinating to discover.

This is a well-narrated book that is completely different from the movie. Just about the only thing the two have in common is the title.

If you like zombies, and who doesn't, you cannot pass this one up!!!

  • The Maltese Falcon

Dashiell Hammett’s The Maltese Falcon, first serialized in a magazine in 1930, is best known through the iconic Humphrey Bogart film of 1941. But it was the book that created the classic "noir" genre with its tough private detective threading his cool way between the criminals and the law. Sam Spade, the private eye solving the mystery of the Maltese statuette, was the template for Philip Marlowe and a host of others…. but they come no more shrewd and cunning with Hammett peppering the text with one-liners.

    Kathi says: "Outstanding American classic!"
"almost as good as the movie!!!"

Would you listen to The Maltese Falcon again? Why?

I love listening to books that have been made into movies. These classic stories are great fun no matter how we enjoy them. Noticing the differences between the two stories is always entertaining. In this case, the endings are wildly different!!! Great fun.

The Humphrey Bogart movie is so ingrained in my mind, and I suspect yours, that, at first, hearing someone else's voice speak the famous lines is jarring. But after about 30 minutes or so, that went away and I was able to enjoy a nice narration.

There are actually 3 movie versions of this story; and I am going to track down the other two for fun.

This is an exclusive, original adventure for the 10th Doctor, read by David Tennant. Featuring additional music and effects, Doctor Who: Dead Air has never been previously published. Hot on the heels of a creature that exists through sound, the Doctor lands on a pirate radio station boat in the late 1960s. The creature has already killed some of the DJs, and the Doctor befriends the survivors. But then the lights go out, and a desperate race for survival begins.

Would you consider the audio edition of Doctor Who to be better than the print version?

These little episodes are meant to be listened to...not read. It is a challenge to longtime Dr. Who fans like myself to discover that the 'universe (of Dr Who) has expanded'. I will never ever get through them all....but it is great fun trying!!!!

What did you love best about Logan's Run?

It is always fun to listen to or read the book that inspired the movie. Visualizing the movie as I listen to the book it was interesting to see the change in characters and scenes. You could almost hear the writers. say well we can't do it the way they did it in the book but we can do it this way. This is a case where at this point in time the movie is definitely better than the book. The plot loses its way considerably And the ending is a letdown. But the author indulges himself in some fantastically described scenes that make up for that loss. All in all, a fun listen.

If you could sum up Ghost Story: The Dresden Files, Book 13 in three words, what would they be?

    Much fun

    Any additional comments?

The story was a bit long this time but the narration that is much been criticized was actually quite enjoyable. There is a bit of a jar every time a new character starts to speak but that goes away very quickly.

I had forgotten this book. The language is fun because it is so quaint and old-timely. But the messages and ideas still work today. A fun listen.

The system was simple. Everyone understood it. Books were for burning, along with the houses in which they were hidden. Guy Montag was a fireman whose job it was to start fires, and he enjoyed his job. He had been a fireman for 10 years, and never questioned the pleasure of the midnight runs, nor the joy of watching pages consumed by flames. He never questioned anything, until he met a 17-year-old girl who told him of a past when people were not afraid, and a professor who told him of a future in which people could think. Guy Montag suddenly realized what he had to do.

    Casey says: "Still Relevant"
    "listening is better than reading"
    Overall

This is an author that it is better to listen to than to read. When reading this book, and I have several times, the temptation is to speed up and skim...listening however is an entirely different experence. The time he takes in describing a scene is best enjoyed by the forced slow pace of hearing.

And of course this particular book has all of the pleasures noted by the other reviews.
