It-girl Betty White delivers a hilarious, slyly profound take on love, life, celebrity, and everything in between. Drawing from a lifetime of lessons learned, seven-time Emmy winner Betty White's wit and wisdom take center stage as she tackles topics like friendship, romantic love, aging, television, fans, love for animals, and the brave new world of celebrity. If You Ask Me mixes her thoughtful observations with humorous stories from a seven- decade career in Hollywood. Longtime fans and new fans alike will relish Betty's candid take on everything....

    Story

I first recall Betty White as Suzanne Niven in the "Mary Tyler Moore" show. Countless interviews and appearances later It is no wonder to me why Betty White is the beloved icon she is.

What I enjoyed most about "If you ask me" was that Betty narrated it herself and no one could have done a better job. In her own words and voice you get the opportunity to learn of this extraordinary woman and her life. The depth of her love and relationship with her late Husband Alan, her dedication to and love for animals, and the relationships with her many co-stars.

The only thing exposed here is Betty's care for others, her conscious remaking of her image into what she is today, and her love and respect for those she has spent so many years working with.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?"

Intriguing and interesting. Just enough science to make the story seem plausible. I though "The martian" was a great listen. Good writing supported by a solid performance.

In keeping with the parable style, Patrick Lencioni begins by telling the fable of a woman who, as CEO of a struggling Silicon Valley firm, took control of a dysfunctional executive committee and helped its members succeed as a team. Story time over, Lencioni offers explicit instructions for overcoming the human behavioral tendencies that he says corrupt teams. Succinct yet sympathetic, this guide will be a boon for those struggling with the inherent difficulties of leading a group.

On June 9, 2008, the butchered body of Travis Alexander was found in his Mesa, Arizona, home. The grisly nature of his death made instant headlines: With 29 knife wounds, his throat slit, and a gunshot to the head, Travis was left to die. The prime suspect in the case was Alexander's ex-girlfriend, the attractive and soft-spoken Jodi Arias. Though Arias initially said that she was nowhere near the scene of crime, little about this case was as it seemed, and before long she had been caught lying to police. As the investigation progressed, her lies evolved multiple times before finally resting on an appalling claim: She had killed Travis in self-defense.

Amazon Customer says: "A Biased view of Jodi Arias"

    Story

The jury has decided Jodi Arias is guilty of the murder of Travis Alexander. The background of Jodi and Travis's relationship, Jodi's previous relationships and her ever evolving story was interesting. the descriptions of the trial were fascinating.

All this being said, within minutes of starting the book the total bias to one side became evident and carried through to the last. Ms. Velez-Mitchell seemed to spend the entire book telling me why her opinion was the only correct one rather than just conveying what would have otherwise been a compelling story

I wont be reading her other book. On the other hand, Elizabeth Whites performance was very good.

Long before he starred on some of television’s most beloved and long-running series such as Taxi and Who’s the Boss? and went on to distinguish himself in a variety of film and stage roles, Tony Danza was a walking contradiction: an indifferent student who dreamed of being a teacher. Inspiring a classroom of students was an aspiration he put aside for decades until one day it seemed that the most meaningful thing he could do was give his dream a shot. What followed was a year spent teaching 10th-grade English at Northeast High - Philadelphia’s largest high school with 3,600 students....

I enjoyed listening to the story of "Mr. Danza". Skepticism gave way as the stories of the student, teachers and Tony's experience progressed. Tony's drive and dedication shone through as did the apparent results.

An interesting insight into people who care in a system that sometimes seems not to.

A light interesting listen that was worth the time.

A man of amazing insight into people and motivations. A brilliant tactician, A ruler who understood how to rule not just minds, but hearts. I was amazed to learn of the many things accomplished by Genghis Khan that were truly ahead of his time and affected the world well into the centuries following.

Genghis Khan may have ruled centuries ago, but the effects of his reign remained for years and in some ways affect us still.

This was the first biography I have listened to in some time that held me for those highly anticipated "sit in the driveway until this part is over" minutes

In The First 20 Hours, Josh Kaufman offers a systematic approach to rapid skill acquisition: how to learn any new skill as quickly as possible. His method shows you how to deconstruct complex skills, maximize productive practice, and remove common learning barriers. By completing just 20 hours of focused, deliberate practice you'll go from knowing absolutely nothing to performing noticeably well. What do you want to learn?

Read the book, listened to the audio book and set out to practice using the methods Josh described.

Less then 20 hours later I was making acceptable hand cut dovetails.

Just over 20 hours later I was coding to the just over basic level I needed to accomplish a specific task..

Practical explanations of practical methodologies that worked. Since reading the book I have learned a new skill I wanted, Learned one I needed and learned one i Promptly abandoned.

If you want to save yourself some time and learn more about skills and yourself this book is a must read.

I do have to agree with some of the folks that gave this book poor reviews. You can save even more time by only reading the first few chapters that explain the method and thought processes. Over half the content is filler that without the hard copy will only make some sense.

Paul Bäumer is just 19 years old when he and his classmates enlist. They are Germany’s Iron Youth who enter the war with high ideals and leave it disillusioned or dead. As Paul struggles with the realities of the man he has become, and the world to which he must return, he is led like a ghost of his former self into the war’s final hours. All Quiet is one of the greatest war novels of all time, an eloquent expression of the futility, hopelessness and irreparable losses of war.

A storm struck on the night Laura Shane was born, and there was a strangeness about the weather that people would remember for years. But even more mysterious was the blond-haired stranger who appeared out of nowhere - the man who saved Laura from a fatal delivery. Years later - after another bolt of lightning - the stranger returned.

Lively consistent and familiar characters fill this book. An interesting story line that seems to be almost constantly changing directions.

This is the first title in some time that warranted several extra "driveway minutes" because the action taking place simply could not have waited until my next trip out.

topping off the great story was superb narration with well voiced characters. I would not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone, Dean Koontz fan or not.

All of my great teachers were able to show me the importance of the seemingly insignificant in some dramatic style. Walter Lewin is a master of dramatic presentation. After listening to "for the love of physics", twice, I found myself watching hours and hours of his lectures and demonstrations on the web.

the thoughts and writing are engaging and lively and I will never look at rainbows the same way. Because of this book I now know how to look for rainbows as well.

    Thank you Professor Lewin.

Mr. Cassella's narration is very good, warm and well paced.
