  • Lord of the Silent: The Amelia Peabody Series, Book 13

    • ABRIDGED (6 hrs and 6 mins)

    • Narrated By Barbara Rosenblat

    Story
    (128)

Undeterred by world war and enemy submarines, Amelia Peabody, grandmaster Elizabeth Peters' indomitable archaeologist-sleuth, once again sets sail for Egypt, where ghosts of an ancient past and specters of a present-day evil hover silently over an inscrutable land.

    Nancy says: "Unabridged is unacceptable"
    "abridged versions are terrible"
    Overall

After reading/listening to all the Amelia Peabody books I was VERY disappointed to see that several of them are only available in an abridged version. Half the story was gone including all the subtle action which makes this series so fantastic. Why, after producing 12 books would they choose to ruin 3 of them by only recording abridged versions? HUGE LETDOWN.

New adventures lie ahead as Anne Shirley packs her bags, waves good-bye to childhood, and heads for Redmond College. With old friend Prissy Grant waiting in the bustling city of Kingsport and frivolous new pal Philippa Gordon at her side, Anne tucks her memories of rural Avonlea away and discovers life on her own terms, filled with surprises...including a marriage proposal from the worst fellow imaginable.

Would you consider the audio edition of Anne of the Island to be better than the print version?

No, although I love audio books because they allow me to "read" while traveling, the print version lets your imagination run wild. And I didn't like how the narrator had Annes voice be dreamy throughout the entire story instead of when it was appropriate.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Anne of the Island?

When the girls actually obtained "Patty's Place"

    Any additional comments?

Wonderful to see Anne exploring the world! The only book where she is truly independent and free.

L.M. Montgomery's Rainbow Valley is the continuation of the beloved classics Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea. Anne and Gilbert Blythe are married and have six mischievous children. Always seeking out new adventures and trying to help others, they're a rambunctious lot.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Young children who are not attached to the core "Anne" characters

What could L.M. Montgomery have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Made this story a cohesive part of the series

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Barbara Caruso?

    Barbra Rosenblat

The Great War has ended at last. Archaeologist Amelia Peabody and her husband, Emerson, the distinguished Egyptologist, no longer fear for the life of their daring son, Ramses, now free from his dangerous wartime obligations to British Intelligence. Delightful new additions to the growing Emerson family and new wonders waiting to be discovered beneath the shifting Egyptian sands mark a time of new beginnings in Luxor.
