wherever James Lee Burke takes you, there you are. this book is a trip to the Alamo. The book is too short but every single minute of it is worth the read. The narration is fantastic. I think I have read almost all of Burke's stories and this one is a good yarn. His descriptions of the old west make you smell it and feel the grit in your teeth.
Very thought-provoking book. The scenario is all too real, it would be very easy for a rouge country to light off some nukes that resulted in an electromagnetic pulse. If our electrical grid was knocked out for 30 days country would be in chaos.
I enjoyed the narrator. This book is a very serious book with serious implications that should be read and paid attention to. It's not just fiction, it's a very real possibility.
Very well done to the author of this book for shining light on this very serious potential situation.
This is a multi-subject history lesson. Medical history, World War 1 history, and Virus history. The great flu epidemic of 1918 is missing from most history books I was exposed to in school. Discussing it with friends I found no one that had anything but a vague notion of what happened in 1918, let alone that more Americas died of the flu in 1918 than died in the Civil War. I also learned so much about our very short history of medicine in the United States, Shocking really that in 1910 you could get into medical schools without even having graduated high school, and receive your MD without ever touching a patient. We have made fantastic strides in a short hundred years. This book pays tribute so some of the great medical scholars and philanthropists that worked together to create world leading medical institutions we have today.
The data on the flu virus and how it spreads is of great value to anyone that wants to live through the next pandemic.
I loved this book. My first B.V. Larson but will not be the last. This is a great story with some fantastic space opera technology to add to the fun. I love great Si-Fi and this book is up there with the best. Highly recommended.
Great book. Excellent and informative without being dramatic. We all face the possibility if infection of one kind or another. Knowing more is a benefit.
Very well read.
Enjoyed the book but it is just the first installment. Ended just when it was really getting good. Look forward to his next book. He is a good writer. The narrator is good but reads without too much variation of voice so it can be hard to follow if you are not paying full attention, like scrubbing you hands in an airport to keep from getting infected...
Loved this book. Best I have read this year. The story was creative and very much based on current science. I did not want it to end. Hope to see another story from this author. Great performance.
This is one of the best books I have read in years. The story is edge of you seat suspense, with a spy style love story mixed in. The writer worked for the CIA so it just doesn't get more realistic. Narration is excellent. This book left me racing back to the computer to see if Jason Matthews had other books. I could not believe this was his first. Destined to become a must read classic.
These are the first three of a series, the next is The Hand of Thrawn. Listen to these first then the race back to the computer and buy the next.
Great writing, wonderful story and ten star narration. Star Wars has never been so good. These are meaty, rich stories that will keep you up at night, and late to work. Perfect!!!
This is a fantastic series. Narration is ten star. Each character voice is unique which makes following the story a pleasure. The story is rich with detail but never overdone. This writing takes you to that special place Star Wars fans know and love. I hope Timothy Zahn writes another series, I eagerly await.
Another great story. Love the Greyman and this is a rich story with a look at new technology that we should all worry about. Found it impossible to hit the stop button.
