The New York Times best-selling Tunnels series continues with this fifth installment from acclaimed authors Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams. In Spiral, horror spreads across England in the form of the Styx, malevolent creatures carrying a dark secret that could spell doom for all Topsoilers. All is not lost, however. Will Burrows and a small band of former commandos vow to stomp out the threat - even if it means placing their lives in mortal danger.

I've been reading this series and was excited to start in on Spiral. Unfortunately, most of this book just feels like filler and not much happens until the last chapter or so, and that was disappointing. Will need to wait for the next and hopefully the last installment to get any resolution for this series.

In a discontent kingdom, civil war is brewing. To unify the divided people, Conner, a nobleman of the court, devises a cunning plan to find an impersonator of the king's long-lost son and install him as a puppet prince. Three orphans are recruited to compete for the role, including a defiant boy named Sage. Sage knows that Conner's motives are more than questionable, yet his life balances on a sword's point he must be chosen to play the prince or he will certainly be killed. But Sage's rivals have their own agendas as well.

I like to have something on hand for my 11 year old son to listen to on the way to school and the way home because we have quite a drive every day. It was a bit tough to get him interested in the story but once he started listening it didn't take long to get him hooked. By the end he was rooting for Sage and making his own predictions about the story and the outcome. Now he's begging for the next installment so I would say this was a hit.

It's one minute after the Big One. Marty Slack, a TV executive, crawls out from under his Mercedes, parked outside what once was a downtown Los Angeles warehouse. Downtown LA is in ruins. The sky is thick with smoke. His cell phone is dead. The freeways are rubble. It will be days before help can arrive. Marty has been expecting this day all his life. He's prepared. He knows there is only one thing he can do... that he must do: get home to his wife, Beth.

    Story

I liked the premise of this story and the narrator is a favorite of mine as I loved his narration of The Iron Druid. What I didn't like about this story was Buck. Buck is about as annoying of a character as they come. He comes off way too strong and by contrast, Marty is much too passive. I understand why this dynamic was necessary as I figured out the twist to the story by the halfway point. Overall it was just OK for me but I think most people would probably enjoy the Walk, so I would recommend it.

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he's not alone. When the lift's doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade - a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls.

    Story

This one didn't meet my expectations. I was expecting something as exciting and engaging as The Hunger Games but The Maze Runner doesn't measure up. There are a lot of things happening throughout this story with very little explanation of why. Which is the question I kept asking for at least half of the story. By the halfway point, I started to form my own theories which pretty much turned out to be true so that may mean it's a bit predictable. The narration was decent. But there does not seem to be a good premise for the overall story. Did some research on the next two titles and reviews indicate this continues to be a problem throughout the series so I won't be continuing with the series.

I enjoy reading survival stories but they are getting hard to come by without the typical zombie junk. I took a chance on this one and I'm glad I did. Though this tale includes plenty of zombies it is well written and is not overly gory. The narration was well done and the story is told in a diary or journal entry type of format. I was engaged right down to the end so I would recommend this one.

I very much enjoyed this story and the narrative was effective as well. I wanted to read something about survival that did not involve zombies and Dust did not disappoint. Also, it was informative. I had some, "I never knew that" moments when it came to the effects of nuclear fallout. I very much recommend this story.

Wanted to like it but just could not, though I did try. The narrator delivers the text in a halting, breathy type of way that just grated my nerves. The characters were not at all believable. The brilliant scientist is really an idiot and the grieving mother is at the middle of a love triangle that is totally out of place in this story. Also, many of the relationships are not made clear so it left me wondering what the heck was going on. I would pass on this one.

Matt Stevens is as tough as a steak from the school cafeteria. He's a seventh grade private eye, and he just did something he said he's never do. He accepted a job from Vincent "Vinny Biggs" Biggio, the kid behind every illegal deal made at Franklin Middle School, from black market candy to forged hall passes.

I was intrigued enough by the first book to listen to the second one. I thought it was a bit disappointing. The story seems to take off in a totally different direction, I was looking forward to finding out what happened to the main characters, but their story was just sort of sprinkled into what almost felt like a whole new book. Confused, not sure I'll continue on to the next one.
