"Filler"
I've been reading this series and was excited to start in on Spiral. Unfortunately, most of this book just feels like filler and not much happens until the last chapter or so, and that was disappointing. Will need to wait for the next and hopefully the last installment to get any resolution for this series.
"Enjoyed"
I like to have something on hand for my 11 year old son to listen to on the way to school and the way home because we have quite a drive every day. It was a bit tough to get him interested in the story but once he started listening it didn't take long to get him hooked. By the end he was rooting for Sage and making his own predictions about the story and the outcome. Now he's begging for the next installment so I would say this was a hit.
"Buck"
I liked the premise of this story and the narrator is a favorite of mine as I loved his narration of The Iron Druid. What I didn't like about this story was Buck. Buck is about as annoying of a character as they come. He comes off way too strong and by contrast, Marty is much too passive. I understand why this dynamic was necessary as I figured out the twist to the story by the halfway point. Overall it was just OK for me but I think most people would probably enjoy the Walk, so I would recommend it.
"Eh."
This one didn't meet my expectations. I was expecting something as exciting and engaging as The Hunger Games but The Maze Runner doesn't measure up. There are a lot of things happening throughout this story with very little explanation of why. Which is the question I kept asking for at least half of the story. By the halfway point, I started to form my own theories which pretty much turned out to be true so that may mean it's a bit predictable. The narration was decent. But there does not seem to be a good premise for the overall story. Did some research on the next two titles and reviews indicate this continues to be a problem throughout the series so I won't be continuing with the series.
"Well done"
I enjoy reading survival stories but they are getting hard to come by without the typical zombie junk. I took a chance on this one and I'm glad I did. Though this tale includes plenty of zombies it is well written and is not overly gory. The narration was well done and the story is told in a diary or journal entry type of format. I was engaged right down to the end so I would recommend this one.
"Brief but fun"
These little stories are very brief and pretty predictable but all in all, they were also fun and kept my 10 year old interested while we drove around town.
"Good Story"
I very much enjoyed this story and the narrative was effective as well. I wanted to read something about survival that did not involve zombies and Dust did not disappoint. Also, it was informative. I had some, "I never knew that" moments when it came to the effects of nuclear fallout. I very much recommend this story.
"Not for me"
Wanted to like it but just could not, though I did try. The narrator delivers the text in a halting, breathy type of way that just grated my nerves. The characters were not at all believable. The brilliant scientist is really an idiot and the grieving mother is at the middle of a love triangle that is totally out of place in this story. Also, many of the relationships are not made clear so it left me wondering what the heck was going on. I would pass on this one.
"My son loved this"
My son really enjoyed this book and is looking forward to hearing the sequel. The narrator does a pretty nice job as well. The whole thing has a middle school mafia vibe to it. Cute.
"Meh..."
I was intrigued enough by the first book to listen to the second one. I thought it was a bit disappointing. The story seems to take off in a totally different direction, I was looking forward to finding out what happened to the main characters, but their story was just sort of sprinkled into what almost felt like a whole new book. Confused, not sure I'll continue on to the next one.
"fantastic"
Chima really knows how to craft a story. This was a very satisfying end to the series. I highly recommend it and anything written by Chima. You get everything in this series. Action, political intrigue, suspense, romance and fantasy. Everything you want is right here!
