Jacob Tomsky has worked in hotels for more than a decade, doing everything from valet parking to manning the front desk. He's checked you in, checked you out, separated your white panties from the white bed sheets, parked your car, tasted your room service, cleaned your toilet, denied you a late check out, given you a wake-up call, eaten M&Ms out of your mini-bar, laughed at your jokes, and taken your money. And in Heads in Beds, he pulls back the curtain on the hospitality business.

Would you consider the audio edition of Heads in Beds to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print version.

What other book might you compare Heads in Beds to and why?

I would compare the author's approach and story telling with the works of Wade Rouse.

Have you listened to any of Jacob Tomsky’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No, I have not.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Maybe more than one setting, but could easily be heard in it's entirety on a long drive.

    Any additional comments?

Fun new author. He has promise!

This is a story of a boy. I love stories, things that are told as though they were something that I listened to from my family, and this meets that criteria. This is a good, old fashioned story of a boy's life and growing up in America. It reminds me of Mark Twain in some aspects, as it does not dwell upon the down trodden side of life, but it does not eliminate it either.

If you like simple, southern stories then you will truly enjoy The Water Seeker.

Dane and Mandy, a popular magic act for 40 years, are tragically separated by a car wreck that claims Mandy’s life—or so everyone thinks. Even as Dane mourns and tries to rebuild his life without her, Mandy, supposedly dead, awakes in the present as the19-year-old she was in 1970.

I am a Frank Peretti fan from way back, but I have to say that this is his best writing.

Illusion is a story of mystery and the human condition. It will keep you listening and you will sink into another time and space to feel the story of these magicians. It is a well developed story with an unlikely narrator.

I do wish that Mr. Peretti would let someone else do the audio. I believe that someone more practiced in this field would bring much more to the story, but don't let this deter you from the book. It is most definitely worth hearing or reading.

In the spring of 1974, Calliope Stephanides, a student at a girls' school in Grosse Pointe, finds herself drawn to a chain-smoking, strawberry-blonde classmate with a gift for acting. The passion that furtively develops between them - along with Callie's failure to develop physically - leads Callie to suspect that she is not like other girls. In fact, she is not really a girl at all.

I chose this book because I am working through the list of 1000 books to read before you die. I went in blind, without reviews or word of mouth information and was pleasantly surprised. Do not allow the fact that the protagonist is a hermaphrodite deter you. This is a wonderful coming of age novel.

The book takes you through a touching immigration story of a Greek family that you will come to love. For me, this came due to a wonderful reader who captures the ethnicity of the family.

Middlesex is an excellent choice that will take you back to your growing up years!

The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them all they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it - from garden seeds to Scripture - is calamitously transformed on African soil.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, this was excellent. The reader was exceptional and the story engaging.

What other book might you compare The Poisonwood Bible to and why?

I would compare this to the books of Francine Rivers.

Which character – as performed by Dean Robertson – was your favorite?

I identified most with the mother. She struggled with keeping her children safe and keeping her faith as well.

Who was the most memorable character of The Poisonwood Bible and why?

Strangely enough the father was the most memorable character. This was the flawed character in the story.

    Any additional comments?

Easy listening, good story from a true storyteller.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Prestige to be better than the print version?

I have not physically read the book, rather have only listened to the audio.

What other book might you compare The Prestige to and why?

Good mystery. Reminds me of Poe in many ways.

What does Simon Vance bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I think that the speaker provided a more authentic setting with his voice that I would have conjured just reading the book, as I do not have a point of reference for this time.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was moved by the times that the characters tried to apologize to the other and stop the feud.

    Any additional comments?

I would highly recommend this book. I will listen to this more than once. I think that hearing it again will illuminate the ending for me.
