"Entertaining and charming."
Well written for this genre. Interesting storyline with twists and turns to keep one wondering exactly how it will work out. Fun and spicy romance. Strong characters without being stereotypical. Good for car. Lots of fun and a whole lot better than many in this light romantic genre. Charming and had a bit of depth to it. Thoughtful plot with spots of fun. I liked it.
"Good book. Don't give up due to the narration!"
I liked both the first and second book. Light and fast paced. Good story with enough twists to keep it interesting. I like this series.
I nearly quit listening four times but the story lured me back.
The narrator had such an intensely IRRITATING way of accenting every 3-4 words in the same manner so that if one had been walking it would be like walking down super long stairs where one's same foot kept hitting the step down!!!!
It drove me nuts.
I put the speed on 1.5 and it was a bit better and I did not have to listen to her quite as long. She only did it when narrating the non-speaking parts. When reading speaking, she was fine, and her voice was pleasant.
WHO TALKS LIKE THAT???? I have only heard young teens do that sing song speech. Just read the thing. I don't need the narrator to add drama or interpretation. A regular reading voice is fine. In this case, monotone would have been a gigantic improvement.
The author wrote a good book. The narration darned near ruined it for me. The first book didn't have this sing song or "up-speak" style.
I will get future books from the library or skip them altogether, as I really could not tolerate listening to this narrator again.
"I liked it."
Had to work at liking it at times. Dragged in spots but turned out to be worth the effort. The premise of valuing the repression of emotions is interesting. I got the next one, so I must have liked it. I want to know how the different species work out the essential conflict.
"What a fun romp through the Edwardian aristocracy!"
Ritch and poor, they are all aristocrats. It's Edwardian London and they need money so they send poor Miss Tonks out to steal. What a hoot! I won't spoil it but it is funny and charming both. I like this series.
"Book two is just as good and better in some areas."
Well, the first one, Cinder, hooked me. I got this one, expecting little, as you know how sequels can be. I was happily impressed. The series gets better. Little Red Riding hood in modern futuristic Europe flies a space ship from the family farm to save the princess that her Grandmother, a space pilot in her youth, died to save. Very believable, if you can believe that, haha. I liked it alot and will continue with the series. These are no damsels in distress. Scarlett is a highly capable young lady. Borrows from multiple fairy tales and modern adventure stories and does it with such spontaneity and flair that one applauds as these plot snippets show up. It's a good series.
"Odd and fascinating."
Futuristic twist to Cinderella with a galatic setting. Well written. Fast. Cinderella is a cyborg/human royalty hidden after a horrible accident and raised by a scientist in future China. Highly relatable. It's hard to describe but I really liked it. Worth your time and credit. I have already bought the next one.
"Charming sequel."
Third in the series. I've really enjoyed this series. Well written, fast, entertaining. I recommend the whole series. In another era but very timely stories. Good solid plot. No graphic sex scenes if that matters to you.
"Charming new series is a winner!"
I found myself totally enjoying this new series. I will most definitely buy the next one. Interesting characters, plot and well written. It's a winner.
"Absolutely delightful!"
You won't regret listening to this delightful and fun book! The story is fast paced, highly interesting, and just so much fun that I listened to it straight through. A group of quietly desperate people band together to fix their problems, and along the way, bring purpose and happiness to their lives. I found it an excellent read. Not cottage mystery, but more like a cleverly designed slice of life, useful for any time period or generation. I really liked it. A lot. Narration is well above average as well. Sometimes the narrator has an irritating voice or pace. This is very well done.
"Had I not known the publishing year....."
It was a timely and current Sherlock Holmes story.
Watson. As always, he was the keeper of the reins.
If you like Sherlock Holmes you'll like this story and author. She got inside the Holmes style, characterization, and story flow. It was NOT imitative but a tribute. The story was fast paced and interesting. Doyle did not write of the Ripper, but had Sherlock Holmes been real, he would have behaved such as was written in this book. I will read another Holmes tribute from this author. Don't be afraid, this is not a rip off or shoddy copy. This is a very good detective story set in Holmes day.
"Entertaining and unique."
Unique character. Two hundred years as a huge mountain lion turned Cherokee woman with serious fighting skills. She blends animal and human traits seamlessly.
There are none exactly like this. New twist.
Good tight plot. A few twists. Interesting and developed characters. Jane lives and walks in a dangerous world and handles it with aplomb and skill. I found myself intrigued. Good new series. I will listen to more.
