I initially downloaded this because I did a search of other books that are read by Edoardo Ballerini and this one had such great reviews. I had no idea what I was in for!

While I am a history buff, it wasn't so much the history that drew me in. It was the detail, the characters, the emotion! What a sweeping story of friendship, treachery, goodness, and evil. The characters are so vividly portrayed and so aptly interpreted by Ballerini! They brought out such different emotions - laughter, sadness, fear, and a huge amount of frustration with the main character - which half the town was feeling!

Long and twisty, riding this one 'til the end is well worth it!

I'm hooked! Just downloaded the second in the series.

It was whispered all through London society that he was a murderer, that he'd spent his youth in an asylum and was not to be trusted - especially with a lady. Any woman caught in his presence was immediately ruined. Yet Beth found herself inexorably drawn to the Scottish lord whose hint of a brogue wrapped around her like silk and whose touch could draw her into a world of ecstasy.

I was looking for something light and quick to listen to and this was entertaining, to say the least. While the base story was actually pretty good, I found the romance part to be laugh out loud funny and the narration to be in an odd panicky monotone. Entertaining? Yes - but for all of the wrong reasons.

The unsolved murder of a respected doctor has sent ripples of fear throughout a city teeming with life and noise and commerce. I was pleasantly surprised by this follow up to Sings the Nightbird. Twistier, darker, and even funnier than the first in this series - I couldn't put it down.
