"Not for the Christmas season"
My advice is to read Wendy Spero and Bill Bryson instead.
"an earful"
The second part of the trilogy is wonderfully compelling. The musical interludes between chapters are terrible -- ear piercing interrruptions to an otherwise great dramatization.
"Will Patton carries the day"
The excellent narration almost makes up for the flaws in the narrative. I missed the bits of humor in JLB's previous book "Crusader's Crossing" and got tired of Dave's self-rightousness.
However, I look forward to what JLB will do in Iberia Parish in the wake of Katrina.
"What listening is all about"
Will Patton's narration of this book was wonderful. I listened to it during a long trip and found myself sorry when the book ended before the drive.
"Needs an editor"
I bought the book to listen to during a long drive. It made the trip interminable -- plodding, repetitive, dreary in all respects.
"Lost his touch"
No need to review the action or lack thereof. I hope this is an anomaly.
