I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Each character has his/her flaws and virtues and we truly care about each one. The main plot and all the smaller ones are suspenseful or entertaining or uplifting or just downright amusing. The narrator is tops. I highly recommend this book for its joyful approach to life.
Just fabulous. Funny, irreverent, complex, full of twists and turns and more great language than you'll find in a book twice its size. Don't hesitate to get this book.
I found my attention wandering. I have a good understanding of Irish history and thought a historical novel would enhance my appreciation of it but I often times realized hundreds of years had past and I had lost the thread of the narrative. Didn't enjoy the reader either---the voice he would use for women made them sound old and shrewish, no matter what their age was in the story.
