...is that I paid good money for it. It is sick and lurid. The only redeeming value is the quality of the narrators. But, if you like to read about calamities to body parts and bizarre behavior...help yourself.
but I was captured by it immediately and couldn't stop listening until it was over. Ms Rice has managed to bring alive 7 year old Jesus and all of the various emotions he must have gone through trying to determine exactly what was different about him. She has also made historical events come alive through the eyes of a little boy. Brilliantly done!!
King wrote the ultimate gotcha and did it masterfully. If you pick the book based on the cover art you are going to be disappointed. Try reading the story description and imagine how SK would deliver the ultimate, nonstereotypical mystery. Reader beware!! This book will make you think.
This book had me hooked from the first minute. It's characters, plot twists, and situations are totally unbelievable...and that what makes it great! Koontz displayed a level of humor I have never seen from him before and had me laughing out loud several times. You have to read this one!!
Although the story has quite a bit of gratuitous grossnesses (?) with unbelievable events and plot twists, that's what makes it fun. I couldn't stop listening as I had to know what kind of trouble these folks would get into next. The narrator is kind of stiff, but I think we're all getting spoiled by Scott Brick. If you can put Mr Brick out of your mind, Mr Prichard isn't too bad.
If you aren't obsessed with accurate details and logical plot, but just what a good nail biter, then this is the book for you. Otherwise, read Up Country.
The book was fair, but lacked much in the way of action or excitement. The worst aspect of this audio, by far, is the narrator. Her voice is grating, irritating, and untrained. If you want to read this one I suggest you buy a printed copy and save yourself the aggrevation.
because the narrator keeps putting me to sleep. Between the long pauses, wheezing intakes of breath, and uninspired delivery, my attention keeps drifting. There is a lot of trivial detail delivered in the same bored voice as the action scenes. I finally gave up and will wait to buy the paperback.
but I am now. I accidentally came across the first book and have been hooked ever since. No matter your preferred genre, you will find something to love in this series. The characters are so "knowable" and the surprises never end. Must read!!
This is my first Patricia Cornwell book. It snagged me right away and kept my interest throughout. In spite of the narrator. Everything is delivered with little inflection. And you can take a power nap between sentences with her 2-3 second pauses. She does absolutely nothing to inhance the suspense or to reflect personalities. If you can get past her reading, however, you will find that this book makes even forensic science interesting and exciting.
This speech based on hysteria is frightening when you realize he was almost our President.
