I chose this book because the last few books I listened to were pretty lightweight entertainment. I wanted something more intellectually "meaty," so this story of a young Florentine girl during the Renaissance immediately caught my attention. Although there were a few parts that I kind of "tuned out," I enjoyed this book very much. Not only did I learn about the history of Florence, but the storyline was excellent. Allesandra's many relationships all had little twists to them. The events were all interwoven and the story kept you wondering what would happen next. I would definitely recommend this book.

I am a huge Grisham fan and I have read or listened to all of his books. While I liked this one, I found it to be very similar to his book

My husband and I listened to "The Help" in our car on a road trip. We both loved it! The characters, story, and narration are engaging and compelling. I highly recommend this book! One of my all time favorites.

After listening to the preview, I thought this would be an interesting story with interesting characters having interesting experiences. WRONG! The sneak preview, which is the first 10 minutes of the book, is the most interesting part - then it's all downhill from there. I am finding it hard to stay awake long enough to finish it. Bad writing, bad narration. Not for me.

I wanted to listen to this book because "The Time Traveler's Wife" is one of my favorites so I was excited to hear that Audrey Niffenegger had finally come out with a new book. While very different from "Time Traveler," "Her Fearful Symmetry" shares with it the same mindset of characters readily accepting supernatural phenomenon into their everyday life. The characters were interesting, but not as well developed as Claire and Henry In Time Traveler. I found myself not caring too much for the twins. I did like the neighbor, Martin, with all his quirks! The book has many plot twists near the end and I was surprised at how it turned out -not what I expected! I would recommend this book, though.

I listened to this book about a year ago and recently started listening to it again. I am enjoying it even more the 2nd time around. So much happens during the year in the life of Jason that you can't absorb it all the 1st time around. Great story and great narrator.

I downloaded this book because I am interested in photography and wanted to know more about Louis Daguerre. Although the book is a work of fiction, it still was very interesting and informative regarding Daguerre's development of the first camera and photographic images. The love story of his life-long obsession with his childhood maid was a little far-fetched, but it kept me hooked until the end. I liked his relationship with Pigeon and the fact that he was a father figure to her, rather than a love interest.

I listened to all 16+ hours if this book twice! It wasn?t that I loved it so much the 1st time that I had to listen again, but I spent so much time trying to figure out what Switters was saying that it wasn?t until the 2nd listen that I actually laughed out loud at some of his comments. Usually at one of his many off-the-cuff analogys like ?red as a baboon?s butt? or referring to the 3rd Prophesy of Fatima as a ?Papal onion? or an apostrophe as a ?comma on a trampoline? ? all easy to miss the first time around! But don?t get me wrong ? I did not like the constant referrals to his lust for his young step-sister, Susie, or his endless womanizing. For all his machoness he was always looking for a relationship that couldn?t possibly work out. Was he perverted or just scared of commitment? Was he ever really going to read ?Finnigan?s Wake? or was that just one more hopeless project for him to endlessly espouse his opinions on innocent victims? Well, I must admit to a small amount of guilty pleasure with this crazy book ? It was quite a trip ? one that I?d recommend ? but not for the faint-hearted!

I was looking for a book to listen to while waiting around in airports, flying for hours, driving to destination, etc. -something "summery," entertaining, light, funny, and fun. "Skinny Dip" was the perfect choice. I loved the way the narrator brought the characters to life - particularly the bodyguard, Toole. The book's lighthearted attitude almost hides the fact that you also learn about the environmental problems being faced in the Everglades. I will definitely download more books by this author and by this narrator!
