At Cold Mountain Penitentiary, the convicted killers on E Block await their turn to walk the Green Mile and keep a date with the electric chair. Paul Edgecombe has seen his share of oddities in his years working as a guard on the Mile, but he's never met anyone like John Coffey.

Orita says: "Both the book and the reader were just plain great"
    "Excellent!"
    Overall

Entertaining from start to finish. Naration wonderful. This story is about inmates on death row and the effect on guards (Screws) in charge of their care. Do not let the "short story series" aspect deter you from listening. This is not a collection of "short stories". Rather it is a complete cohesive book that was originally published as a serial. It is one complete book that has been knit together masterfully by the King of suspense, Stephen King. I enjoyed every minute. Characters and story line are easy to follow. You will laugh, cry, cringe and be dismayed by the "system". You will not be disappointed. Buy this book, it is one of the best ever written.

    "So Slow To Get Going"
    Overall

As a 30 hour per week traveler and over 12 years on Audible.com, I seldom write a negative or neutral review. However, I felt compelled to advise my fellow listeners about this title.

The book is sooooo slow to pick up speed and I am talking 10 to 15 hours here to pick up speed.

Even then, it rambles on. It sounds like it is about to get interesting only to shift gears once again.

It is a novel about interesting issues that span the course of generations of family members. It starts in World War 2 (about 1941 or 1942) and comes close to present day times.

It contains many interesting tidbits if you have a strong math/technology background.

Trying to seperate the generations of family is a bit difficult as the names and functions are so similar.

If you want a really long book where the engagement and excitement is spaced long enough for you to calculate your tax return in your head without missing a beat, then this is for you.

It has it's high spots but I can not recommend it to the listener that wants a fast paced, exciting, easy to follow read.

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

Pamela Murphy says: "COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN"
    "Excellent listen!"
    Overall

This is the first title I have listened to by this author. It was great! Narration excellent as well.

The main character and supporting characters were well developed and most interesting.

The plot is complex but easy to hold in your mind without any waining interest or daydreaming excursions.

The fact that it takes place in a foreign country (foreign to the United States) and translated, does not diminish the entertainment value. The only difficulty I had was getting my arms around the value of the local currency. Chrona's I think it was. But most of the sums were so large that it was not hard to understand the motivation behind the actions related to the money.

In my mind, this is a mystery with the perfect balance of (romance?) and relationships.

You do not want to miss this one. Buy the book. You will not be disappointed!

I look forward to more titles by this author.
    Get ready to enjoy.

    Debbie McKelvey says: "Very Entertaining"
    "Excellent listen!"
    Overall

I have not heard the other similar title other listeners refer to.
However, This audio book is fast paced, detailed, full bodied, and well developed. I enjoyed it from begining to end.
It addresses legal, moral, financial, romantic and revenge aspects of the main characters.
I was never bored or wanting for a faster pace.
I am a truck driver and have listened to over 150 audible titles since 2002. This is one of my utmost favorites.
    Buy this book.
    You will not be dissapointed!

In The Laws of Our Fathers, the latest drive-by shooting in a notoriously drug-plagued housing project has taken the life of an unusual victim: the ex-wife of a prominent politician. The case that ensues reunites a once like-minded group of men and women whose views have evolved considerably since the 1960s. New York Times best-selling author Scott Turow is renowned for his thrilling, thought-provoking courtroom dramas.

    "Enjoyable and entertaining"
    Overall

This book is written largely in first person through the use of multiple flashbacks then reverting to the present.

This is a long title, over 28 hours. By the end of part 1 (of 4 parts) you will be hooked.

While listed as a legal thriller, I found this book to have a good leagl premise but the actual story to be an adventure into life and relationships and how those relationships can confound the legal process.

You will find elements of love, romance, life, death, friendship, politics, demonstration, child rearing, revenge and divorce in this title.

I was initially concerned with "various readers" but found them all excellent and complimentary.

I have rated this book a 4 instead of 5 simply because my vast listening has yeilded books that are more fast paced and immediately exciting.

If you are looking for a long title that is enjoyable and entertaining you will not be disappointed with this selection.

With each and every new novel, Dean Koontz raises the stakes, and the pulse rate, higher than any other author. Now, in what may be his most suspenseful and heartfelt novel ever, he brings us the story of an ordinary man whose extraordinary commitment to his wife will take him on a harrowing journey of adventure, sacrifice, and redemption to the mystery of love itself, and to a showdown with the darkness that would destroy it forever.

    Overall

This is absolutely an excellent read!

It grabs your attention within the first 5 to 10 minutes and holds you for the remainder of the book.
This book is every bit as good as his "Mr Murder" but not as weird.
It is on par with his Christopher Snow novels but again, not as strange.
The work is totally plausable and beliveable.
The characters are easy to follow and remember.
I did not encounter a single second of "zoning out" on my part as a listener.
It is akin to a very good mystery novel.
Sorry, no cute or wise dogs in this one.
Buy this book, you will not be dissapointed.

Some mistakes can change your life forever. For Matt Hunter, that mistake came in one terrible moment when his attempt to help a friend and stop a fight resulted in an accidental death. Matt was convicted of manslaughter and sent to prison. Time that his peers spent in college, Matt endured behind bars.

    Amber says: "Exciting!"
    "Wonderful Story, Very well organized"
    Overall

This is one of those books that grabs your attention from the start and has very few lulls throughout the story. Some audio books are presented in a way that makes it hard to keep track of the characters. This book does not have that problem. This is the first title I have listened to by this author and I loved it! I also like Grisham, Patterson, Sanford & Ludlum to name a few. In it's own way, this author is every bit as good as those I mentioned. Coben has his own distinctive style and I feel sure this will be a refreshing and enjoyable change of pace for mystery fans that have never tried Coben's books. I recommend "The Innocent" highly.

In 1970, one of Mississippi's more colorful weekly newspapers, The Ford County Times, went bankrupt. To the surprise and dismay of many, ownership was assumed by a 23 year-old college dropout, named Willie Traynor. The future of the paper looked grim until a young mother was brutally raped and murdered by a member of the notorious Padgitt family. Willie Traynor reported all the gruesome details, and his newspaper began to prosper.

Written from the perspective of a weekly newspaper owner & reporter.
You will get fresh insights on some of Clanton Mississippi's familiar characters.
While this is not Grisham's best, it is still very good and a lot better than the majority of books I have listened to.

It starts a bit slow but the pace picks up quickly. Soon you will be amazed at unexpected plot twists. This book is not for the weak of heart. Old world war fighting is most bloddy and grusome.
