After thoroughly enjoying "Pride and Prejudice," narrated by Emilia Fox, I thought I would like "The Portrait of a Lady." I did not wonder about the narrator's voice because it has never been a problem for me. I am not able to sample books on my computer so I went ahead and ordered the first volume. To my disdain the narrator's voice I found is not appropriate for narrating. Her voice is way too deep, wobbly and raspy. At times I could not even understand what she was saying. A clear, normal voice is only appropriate. I would not buy this book unless you can sample it and see for yourself.
