"Great new perspective for the history buff"
Love it. 'Read' it twice. Wonderful new slant on how the world got here.
"Love David on TV ...but ..."
Interesting, but very "wonky." I kept wishing for an outline to figure out just what Mr. Brooks was up to here.
"Glad I 'Read' It"
I am glad I read it, but man! This was one of the most self-involved tales I have been exposed to in some time.
"Patriots of Every Stripe"
It's a good thing we can embrace patriots of every stripe in this country. Mr. Cheney story reveals a man of considerable talent and long service to his country. That he is sure he is a patriot I have no doubt. But he is a patriot of a stripe I am sure we need fewer of not more.
"Gritty. Takes you to a place you've not been."
An exposition of depravity, just short of so strange that you can still relate. Involving to the end. Captures a bottom fisher part of the society we wish were not there.
"A Report, Not a Story, But Landlocked"
Not so much about piracy on the high seas as pirates hanging around on land. Lacks context or much in the way piratic action.
"Birth of Britain"
Winston Churchill's seminal work crackles right along through centuries of British depravity and triumphs, just enough detail and on you go (although one might wish to hear a bit more of the condition of the non-noble common man). Churchill spices his research with a generous serving of opinion in a way that only one who has "been there" can do. While it was launched decades ago it remains a very contemporary history.
