Sometimes a man can be redeemed. But not in the way he expects. Jason Stafford is a former Wall Street hotshot who made some bad moves, paid the price with two years in prison, and is now trying to put his life back together. He’s unemployable, until an investment firm asks him to look into possible problems left by a junior trader who died recently in an accident. What he discovers is big - there are problems, all right, the kind that get you killed. But it’s not his only concern. Stafford has another quest as well: to reclaim his five-year-old son, "the Kid", from his unstable ex-wife, and then learn just what it means to make a life with him.

    Ann says: "Thoroughly Enjoyable"
"I liked the story and the narration."

    Story

The story was great. Erik Bergmann, the reader was perfect. I was captured by the story almost immediately. The characters were well assembled. The only thing I didn't like was the language, but this story was a good one. The relationship between Jason Stafford and The Kid developed nicely. I would recommend this one and I might read this one again

It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

    Shannon says: "Word Thief"
"You will want to reread this one."

    Story

War torn Germany, a small girl and not the heaviness of so many I have read. Papa is my favorite character. He is like still water to the girl. He gives her love and encouragement. This story holds wonderment and tears. The reader is perfect. The story is told by an interesting character, which brings you into the story. You will watch and observe with him. I hope the movie does this book justice.

The year is 1819, and the renowned chef Owen Wedgwood has been kidnapped by the ruthless pirate Mad Hannah Mabbot. He will be spared, she tells him, as long as he puts exquisite food in front of her every Sunday without fail. To appease the red-haired captain, Wedgwood gets cracking with the meager supplies on board. His first triumph at sea is actual bread, made from a sourdough starter that he leavens in a tin under his shirt throughout a roaring battle, as men are cutlassed all around him. Soon he’s making tea-smoked eel and brewing pineapple-banana cider.

The most gorgeously theatrical of all Dickens's novels, Nicholas Nickleby follows the delightful adventures of a hearty young hero in 19th-century England. Nicholas, a gentleman's son fallen upon hard times, must set out to make his way in the world. His journey is accompanied by some of the most swaggering scoundrels and unforgettable eccentrics in Dickens's pantheon.

    Robert says: "A knockout!"

The book was written in another century. The English was perfect and that almost made the book drag. It is a classic and I wanted to read it. Nicholas Nickleby was a most interesting character. His Uncle Ralph was a villain and a good one.

The story was really good. The characters are boys who have been adopted by a couple. The boys are grown and both parents have died. The 4th boy is only 10 yrs old. Seth has a social worker who knows what he needs. The story could have been told without all the language. It would stand on it's own.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Based on the true story of Alexander Selkirk, who survived alone for almost five years on an uninhabited island off the coast of Chile, The Mysterious Island is considered by many to be Jules Verne’s masterpiece. “Wide-eyed mid-nineteenth-century humanistic optimism in a breezy, blissfully readable translation by Stump” (Kirkus Reviews), here is the enthralling tale of five men and a dog who land in a balloon on a faraway, fantastic island of bewildering goings-on and their struggle to survive....

Will, Jim and Tessa are such strong characters. Charolette, Henry are perfect together. I was not sure I would like this kind of book, but Cassandra Clare has won me over. The narrator, Daniel Sharman does a terrific job bringing the characters to life. I could not hardly put these books down.
