"Depressing"
If your over 70 years old, don't read this
"Great for the oldies"
I think the audio was great but the print edition , I imagine would have been equally good
It evoked the atmosphere of wartime London and England generally. My only crtisism is that it denigrated the vision and esteem of Winston Churchill, he appeared as a much weaker character than I believe he actually was. Churchill has elsewhere been describes as the greatest Englishman ever; this does not come accross. Nevertheless the descriptions of London and it's people is an accurate evokation of those wartime years. The various characters come across as being very human with there strengths and weaknesses. I had not known about all the sexual intrigues and found this side of their humanity very intiguing
none in particular
Yes! it often brought tears to my eyes, though there was not much to laugh about
Well worth getting esspecially nostalgic for older folk
"bizzare"
Not to have bothered writing it
Not a story at all
don't know
perhaps to a nercophiliac
Gruesome, of interest to philovampires only. A waste of time and money
"word spinner"
I think Grisham has run out of ideas. The book lacked a consistent plot. Was it about a killer, a homely lady or a mad lawyer. To say nothing of the young newspaper editor. Should be rated as a 1/2
"spilane?????"
This could have been a good listen but for the fact that the narrator who was supposed to be German had an American accnet which reminds one of the Micky Spillane radio series. Yet the narrator showed that he was quite capable of sounding like German accented English. This spoiled it for me.
"Not what it was cracked up to be"
Too long and repetetive. This book did not live up to expectations. Far too much emphasis on astronauts bowel habits
"fairy story"
I bought this book on account of the rave reviews, mostly 5's. There was one reviewer who rated it a 1 but I chose to go with the majority. I shold have listened to the lone dissenter. The book was a childs story, maybe woman like it, but not my sort of women. I couldn't get through the first part of the book and am sorry I wasted toime downloading the balance. I have rated it a 1 but if it were posss\ible I would rate it zero. The plot is naive and childish and takes an awful long time to get nowhere. I have bought books that are worse but then I couldn't finish them either. To any intelligent reader/ listener I would recommend DON'T BUT THIS BOOK
"narration?"
This was a rather borimg inconsequential book. I bought it having come from a Jewish orthodox background. The mystery followed no logical plan and there was no way to use one's powers of deduction as with a writer like Agatha Christie. However the narrator was both good and bad. His voice changes were superb but somebody should have taught him how to pronounce the Jewish names and other yiddish ar hebrew words in the text. The only thing to recommend it is that i had a good giggle at his mis-pronounciation. I wont buy anymore of her books
"bloodthirsty"
This is a riveting book brilliantly narrated. However, it is not a book for the faint hearted, The violence is horrific and terrifyingly real. If you don't like horror don't get this book. But if you can enjoy blood and guts then certainly you won't be disappointed. This has more bodies than Hamlet and is more bloodthirsty than No Country for Old Men. Enjoy.
"womans world"
This is definately a womans book written by a woman. I eventually gave up after giving the book a good chance. It read like a womans owns magazine with the frills and make up described in great detail. Perhaps my wife might enjoy it but I doubt it, she is far oo intelligent for this type of hype. I wont get another of her books despite the wonderful recommendations of some listeners
"tired author"
I would have rated this book much higher. The reader was good and the story excellent, but it seemed to me the the author ran out of steam and became tired of writing and brought the story to an unsatisfactory end. The potential was there for a fabulous ending with some interesting twists. He had all the elements and could easily have developed a far better conclusion. After really enjoying 95% the story fell flat.
