The Price family has spent generations studying the monsters of the world, working to protect them from humanity - and humanity from them. Enter Verity Price. Despite being trained from birth as a cryptozoologist, she'd rather dance a tango than tangle with a demon, and is spending a year in Manhattan while she pursues her career in professional ballroom dance. Sounds pretty simple, right?

I can't wait to read the next in this series. The little religious mice were adorable and I can't wait to see what happens in the relationship between Verity and Dominic. The narrator does a good job creating a separate voice for each character, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone

A Marla Mason novel! She's an ass-kicking sorcerer who doesn't wear a leather catsuit, doesn't suffer from low self-esteem, doesn't wallow in angst, and is almost always absolutely certain she's right... even when she's dead wrong. What about Broken Mirrors? It's got monsters. It's got sarcasm. It's got death, betrayal, ancient gods, dark doppelgangers, mirror worlds, wisecracks, artifacts, oracles, and magical daggers. Oh... and a cloak.

I've read all the other books in this series up to this one. It took a bit to get used to the Marla Mason character in the first book, but she grows on you and I enjoyed them all. Unfortunately this is the one that really killed her for me. I could go on a page long rant here but basically, I couldn't believe that someone could be so self-centered and selfish to actually do everything she did in this book. She was like a child. She was completely uncaring about all the deaths she caused and refused to take responsibility for any of it. If I hadn't known better I'd have a hard time believing that she was the heroine of this story.

As a positive, if you can call it that, if the story had been tweaked a little it could have been quite good. Like if Marla had been home defending her city from invasion instead of creating the opportunity for one because of her own selfish interests.

Someone wants Marla Mason dead. Usually that's not news. As chief sorcerer of Felport, someone always wants her dead. But this time she's the target of a renegade assassin who specializes in killing his victims over days, months, or even years. Not to mention a mysterious knife-wielding killer in black who pops up in the most unexpected places.

Where does Poison Sleep rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Hard to answer a question like this. How can you rate this against a romance, or any other style of story? Maybe the middle?

What was one of the most memorable moments of Poison Sleep?

I liked the way that Genevive gave Z spiderman- mold superpowers.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I got my feet wet with the first one and this one was better. I had to drag myself away.

    Any additional comments?

I thought this book was better than the first one and I think that T.A. Pratt has a better grasp of how to write Marla so that she isn't so one dimensional as she was in the start of the first book.

Would you listen to Blood Engines again? Why?

    Yes

What was one of the most memorable moments of Blood Engines?

I liked it when Marla and Rondeau went to Finch's party

Have you listened to any of Jessica Almasy and T. A. Pratt (Introduction) ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Only the books in this storyline. This was the first one.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, at first I didn't know if I liked Marla at all, and that was a bit of a deterrent. Once it got maybe 1/3 of the way in I couldn't put it down.

    Any additional comments?

At first I found the character of Marla Mason very unlikable. She seemed very self absorbed and rude, but I stuck with it anyway since the story was gaining speed and I wanted to know what happens. By the end, even though I still thought she was a bit mean I also thought she made a good character and got the next book.

Destiny casts its hand one perfect moonlit night when Ascencion's most elusive highwayman, the Masked Rider, chooses the wrong coach to rob. For inside is Rafael, the prince of the kingdom, renowned for his hot-blooded pursuits of women and other decadent pleasures. The failed raid leaves the equally notorious Masked Rider wounded and facing a hangman's noose.

I can't exactly put a finger on what was wrong, but I really disliked this in audiobook. I love Gaelen Foley's other novels and even this one wasn't horrible on paper but I had to listen to it on double speed to get through.

It wasn't exactly the characters specifically as I liked both the prince and the heroine. It might have been more the heroine's wishy washy attitude on sleeping with the prince who she admits she loves. I couldn't buy the scared line after the first night since this was a women who dressed up as a highwayman (woman?) and robbed people. The prince on the other hand was a bit to willing to take it.

My final word on this one : It's not so horrible to never read, but definitely get it on discount.

    Story

This story started out in the usual way of a Books and Braun novel with the two of them starting an assignment. This time it was in America. Although I thought there was too much of Welly's car in the story, the interactions with America - dressed up a lot like the wild west with steampunk, was really good. All the way through it was as quality as any other of the Ministry novels but I think they really outdid themselves at the end. I won't give away any details except to say that you actually meet the Maestro and boy won't you be surprised. - Or maybe not, but I sure was.

So my suggestion on this one is : Yes Read It !! . . Read them in order for the best effect. You can read this one as a single, but you'll be missing parts of the story that help fill things out.

Taya, the metal-winged icarus whose investigation helped defeat a plot against Ondinium and its populace, is assisting her exalted husband Cristof Forlore on his first ambassadorial mission. They must learn about Mareaux’s experiments in airship technology and determine whether the ostensibly scientific vehicles might be used for warfare - a taboo for Ondiniums, whose domination of the air is tempered by a deep cultural abhorrence toward airborne weapons after the devastation of the Last War 1,000 years ago.

I loved, and I mean LOVED clockwork heart. I wished for a sequel even though I didn't expect one and had horribly high expectations. Maybe that's why I felt a bit disappointed in Clockwork Lies. Although Cristof and Taya are married now it seemed like there wasn't much in the story that had them working together. I got a real Taya = Lone Ranger feel, and although the most action centered around her in the last book, I felt she had a lot more help from friends and neighbors. Also, - and this will sound weird - I disliked the villain. I don't want to give away the surprise so I will say that the villain as a general idea was good, but the specific people didn't work for me.

That being said, its definitely worth a read, or listen whichever you prefer. This one says that it's book 2 so I'm hoping a book 3 will come along soon. I also loved what this book does with Captain Ancathra (sp?) and its worth a read for that alone.

Judith Hampton was as beautiful as she was proud and loyal. Her dear Scottish friend from childhood was about to give birth, and Judith had promised to be at her side. But there was another reason for the journey from her bleak English home to the Highlands: to meet the father she had never known, the Laird Maclean. Nothing prepared her, however, for the sight of the Scottish barbarian who was to escort her into his land...Iain Maitland, laird of his clan, a man more powerfully compelling than any she had ever encountered.

I've always loved this book, but this version was hard to listen to. The narrator did a lousy job with the woman's voices, and they all sounded like they were 5 years old. I listened at 1.25 speed and it helped. The story is good enough to overlook any faults in narration.

No secret stays hidden forever. A phone call from an old friend sets mysterious book researcher Giovanni Vecchio back on the path of a mystery that has eluded him for centuries. Little does he suspect a young librarian holds the key to an ancient secret, nor could he expect the danger Beatrice De Novo would attract. Now both will follow a twisted maze leading from the archives of a university library, through the fires of Renaissance Florence, and toward a passion that could destroy them both.

I really love these books, so when I heard they were coming out in audio I couldn't wait to get them. Unfortunately the narrator is really bad. I mean really really bad. I had a hard time telling the difference between Gio and Carwyn by their voices. I also thought that Bea needed to sound more female and less like the actual narrator. The book isn't worth returning since I got it with the ebook and it was fairly cheap, but I don't recommend anyone spend any time or money listening. Buy the book instead. You'll be glad you did.

I've always loved the book, along with all of her werewolf series, but listening to it on audiobook just didn't work. I felt like Duncan was talking in a Scottish accent with a lisp. I think the reader was trying too hard with the accent and some sections were regular english with the lisp part mixed in to make it sound Scottish. Overall it was bad.
