"Expected the best, but recieved pretty good."
I read this book on my Ipad before downloading the audio version. I loved the book, but the audio seems to fall just a bit flat. It's improving toward the end (I'm not quite done) but at one point the characters seemed to be so unexcited in the script that I debated stopping.
Now, my memory of the book may be faulty. It's been quite a while since I read it last, but I've loved all of Mallory's other books and can't remember this one being so snooze worthy.
I bought it on sale somewhere between $5 - $7 and I recommend it for this price, but I don't think it's worth using a credit on.
"First one was better"
I loved the first InCryptid book so as soon as this one came out I got it. I love the mice and the relationship between Dominic and Verity gets more in depth. However, there were a few things that bugged me in this book. First, the story changes POV halfway through, going from Verity to Sarah and back to Verity. I can understand the reasons why the author might want to do this, but I didn't like it. I also had some problems with how it ended. It just seemed a bit unrealistic. Still, I'm waiting to see what happens next.
"Great book, just like the others."
This book was even better to listen to than it was to read (something that doesn't happen that often) I'd recommend this or any of her other series' to anyone.
"Love the mice!"
I can't wait to read the next in this series. The little religious mice were adorable and I can't wait to see what happens in the relationship between Verity and Dominic. The narrator does a good job creating a separate voice for each character, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone
"Amazed!"
Ok, all of the demonica books are really great, but I'm taking the time to review this one specifically. In most cases i don't like to hear a romance novel read by a male narrator. To me it just feels wrong. In this audiobook, the narrator did a great job. Usually I can tell right off, but in this one the reading was so smooth that I didn't even notice until halfway through. Love the series, love the author, and love the narrator. A must listen!
"Probably better in print"
One of the problems I found with this story was that the narrator. The male voices didn't sound very male, and a lot of the story was at the same tone, without much variation. The story itself was a hard call since I liked the heroine, but thought she should have done more about her situation since I got the impression she really hated being the heiress, but pretty much went with the flow anyway.
I found some plot holes, or sections that were unclear and I thought that the sex scene 3/4 of the way through was just for page filler and was written in a way that did nothing for the plot.
"Heroine bugged me"
The reading and overall storyline in this book, like all Meljean Brook's stuff, were really good. My problem was with the heroine who seemed to spend most of the first half of the book running away from her problems. I dislike a cowardly heroine, especially in the case of this story where most of the issues would have been resolved if she had stopped to talk with the hero for ten minutes before running full speed in the opposite direction. Of course this would have shortened the story considerably but that's my take.
"Exceeded Expectations!"
Like with most of my audiobooks, I've read this one before listening. I wasn't sure how well this would actually translate to audio, but since it's one of my favorites I was willing to give it a try.
I would recommend this to everyone. It more than exceeded what I expected, and I will most likely re-listen to it again. It's worth the credit.
"Narrator tiny tiny bit under par"
I've always liked this story and would listen to it again. It wasn't done badly, I just thought that the narration wasn't quite what I hoped for as compared to other audiobooks of its type.
If you're wondering whether to spend the money to hear the audio of a book you've already read or want to know the story for the first time it's not a waste.
"Love the series"
about the same. I love the book, and the audio As a audio newbie I've always thought that reading the book is better than listening to someone read it out. In some cases I'd have to say that's the case - some Robin Mckinley stuff is dull, dull, dull in audio when I loved the book - but this isn't the case here. I'd recommend to anyone.
Nothing specific. I've listened to her other recordings for this series and for Raven's Strike and enjoy listening to her.
