  • Tallgrass

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 30 mins)
    • By Sandra Dallas
    • Narrated By Lorelei King
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

During World War II, a family's life is turned upside down when the government opens a Japanese internment camp in their small Colorado town. After a young girl is murdered, all eyes (and suspicions) turn to the newcomers, the "interlopers", the "strangers". Rennie Stroud has never seen it before. She has just turned 13 and, until this time, life has pretty much been what her father told her it should be: predictable and fair.

    Laurie says: "A nice read"
    "Well Done"

This is a well told story of family, farm life, conflict, war, abuse, fear, love, support, humor, saddness, and life. I enjoyed it and wish there were more Sandra Dallas novels available.

  • The Graveyard Book

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 47 mins)
    • By Neil Gaiman
    • Narrated By Neil Gaiman
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Why we think it’s a great listen: Gaiman’s not just an award-winning author, but a narrator who earns rave reviews – and fields requests from other authors to perform their books, too! Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead....

Guillermo says: "Masterful Fantasy for the Jaded Heart"
    "Wonderfully Entertaining"

An imaginative and beautifully told story. Captivating and yet an easy listen. Very entertaining. Once again Mr. Gaiman has woven a tale of worlds beyond our own full of hidden lessons and life truths. Highly recommended! :)

  • Perfect Match

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 51 mins)
    • By Jodi Picoult
    • Narrated By Nancy Black

Assistant district attorney Nina Frost prosecutes child molesters on a daily basis. So when she receives the awful news that her son Nathaniel has been sexually abused by her family priest and is so traumatized that he's now mute, she knows better than anyone that she cannot trust the courts to protect her child. Certain that she can do a better job, and convinced she is taking the moral high ground, she shoots the priest in cold blood at his arraignment.

Debbi says: "Don't waste your time on this one"
    "Mind Boggling"

They say truth is stranger than fiction but I think not in this case. LOL However, I did enjoy the book and as usual, Jodi has left me thinking about current issues in a new light.

  • Enchantment

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 26 mins)
    • By Orson Scott Card
    • Narrated By Stefan Rudnicki

As one of the most consistently exciting writers to emerge in the last 25 years, Orson Scott Card has been honored with numerous awards, while immersing readers in dazzling worlds only he could create. Now, in Enchantment, Card works his magic as never before, transforming the timeless story of Sleeping Beauty into an original fantasy brimming with romance and adventure.

    Annette says: "Enchanting"
    "A modern day Fairy Tale"

I've read the book twice and listened to it repeatedly as well. It is full of imagination and makes one wonder what truth lies behind other fairy tales. This is one of my favorite summer reads.

  • Before Green Gables: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 55 mins)
    • By Budge Wilson
    • Narrated By Renée Raudman

Before Green Gables is the story of Anne Shirley's life before her arrival at Green Gables - a heartwarming tale of a precocious child. Her lively imagination and relentless spirit help her to overcome difficult circumstances and exemplify a young girl's ability to love, learn, and above all, dream.

    Sarah says: "very charming"

This was a fun listen. If you are a fan of that Anne-girl you will enjoy getting to know her parents and those who helped set the stage for our little orphan's later years. I loved it! :-)
