When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.

What would have made Fifty Shades of Grey better?

    A totally different story line!

What could E L James have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

If only she had gone to school to learn to write.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Becca Battoe?

Becca's juvenile voice went right along with the juvenile words written for the juvenile character of Ana.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Fifty Shades of Grey?

    Too numerous to mention

    Any additional comments?

I read all the reviews (good and bad) and listened to friends who have read this series (and loved it), so I just had to find out for myself. I truly wanted to like this series, but I could not even finish the first book. I have never not wanted to finish a book because it was so poorly written as this one!
Unfortunately the author will read all these bad reviews and laugh all the way to the bank!!

Prosecuting attorney in the Manson trial Vincent Bugliosi held a unique insider's position in one of the most baffling and horrifying cases of the 20th century: the cold-blooded Tate-LaBianca murders carried out by Charles Manson and four of his followers. What motivated Manson in his seemingly mindless selection of victims, and what was his hold over the young women who obeyed his orders? Now available for the first time in unabridged audio, the gripping story of this famous and haunting crime is brought to life by acclaimed narrator Scott Brick.

What made the experience of listening to Helter Skelter the most enjoyable?

I was in Junior High/High School when the trial was going on, was very interested in knowing what actually went on, since I just remember bits and pieces. (I DO remember Nixon saying what he said about Manson being guilty!)

What was one of the most memorable moments of Helter Skelter?

The trial was fascinating! I guess that's not ONE memorable moment, but cannot put my finger on ONE memorable moment.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

It was very good, but since I've listened to Scott read this book, I cannot listen to him read any other book because I think of Helter Skelter!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was moved by VIncent Bugliosi's dedication and work on this case! (And of course, I have to think so highly of his wife and family who did not see him throughout this trial!)

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s a story that most people know, told here in an unforgettable way – an audio masterpiece that rivals the best thrillers, thanks to Capote genre-defining words and Brick’s subtle but powerful characterizations. On November 15, 1959, in the small town of Holcomb, Kansas, four members of the Clutter family were savagely murdered by blasts from a shotgun held a few inches from their faces. There was no apparent motive for the crime, and there were almost no clues.

What did you love best about In Cold Blood?

Besides being well written, this incident happened near my hometown of Great Bend,Ks. I can remember when the movie was filmed in GB.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It absolutely kept me on the edge of my seat! I think it only took a couple of days to listen to this audiobook.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

There were times when I quit listening to what Scott was reading and was just listening to his voice.(somewhat annoying) He is not my favorite narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES! Good content and well written!

    Any additional comments?

Highly recommend this audiobook even if you know nothing of this case.

Ten-year-old Comfort Snowberger has attended 247 funerals. But that's not surprising, considering that her family runs the town funeral home. And even though Great-uncle Edisto keeled over with a heart attack and Great-great-aunt Florentine dropped dead, just like that, six months later, Comfort knows how to deal with loss, or so she thinks.

This is one of the sweetest stories I've ever read! You fall in love with all the characters--especially Comfort! Very well written--my fourth-graders loved it!
