Award-winning, best-selling author Edwidge Danticat taps her exceptional storytelling gifts for this memoir of the two men who raised her. When the author was only four years old, her parents emigrated from Haiti to New York in search of a better life, leaving their daughter in the care of her uncle Joseph. A peaceful pastor in Port-au-Prince, Joseph raised Edwidge with the love and devotion of a father, despite facing many hardships in politically turbulent Haiti.

What did you like best about Brother, I'm Dying? What did you like least?

First of all, the reading was stunningly beautiful. The storytelling was gripping as well, but I should note that the first half and the second half of the book have a very different feel. Not that either was bad, but it was a bit jarring, probably intentionally so.

For fans of Tina Fey and David Sedaris - Internet star Jenny Lawson, aka The Bloggess, makes her literary debut. Jenny Lawson realized that the most mortifying moments of our lives - the ones we'd like to pretend never happened - are in fact the ones that define us. In Let's Pretend This Never Happened, Lawson takes readers on a hilarious journey recalling her bizarre upbringing in rural Texas, her devastatingly awkward high school years, and her relationship with her long-suffering husband, Victor.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

    No

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I thought that she might be a few steps away from feeding pigeons in the park for several hours of the day, but it was pretty funny.

Have you listened to any of Jenny Lawson???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is her first one, isn't it?

Was Let's Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir) worth the listening time?

    Absolutely. Not that long, either.

    Any additional comments?

Usually, when a narrator tells the reader that he or she is crazy, what that really means is that he or she is quirky, onconventional, etc. In this case however, you realize that she's not kidding. And you love that.

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

The reader has an impressive resume, so, clearly, I'm not in the majority here. However, he seemed horrible to me. Some people should just not do accents until they've practiced more. (Seriously? A character who sounds like Count Dracula? What was he thinking?) However, listening to the book is probably advisable, since the author has a

Alternating between an America still cocooned in its inability to grasp the danger at hand and a Europe being torn apart by war, The Postmistress gives us two women who find themselves unable to deliver the news, and a third woman desperately waiting for news yet afraid to hear it. Sarah Blake's The Postmistress shows how we bear the fact that war goes on around us while ordinary lives continue. Filled with stunning parallels to today, it is a remarkable novel.

America's national parks spring from an idea as radical as the Declaration of Independence: that the nation's most magnificent and sacred places should be preserved, not for royalty or the rich, but for everyone. In this evocative narrative, Ken Burns and Dayton Duncan delve into the history of the park idea.

She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells, taken without her knowledge, became one of the most important tools in medicine. The first immortal human cells grown in culture, they are still alive today, though she has been dead for more than 60 years.

I find myself preferring to talk about the book to others who have read it. Usually, I eagerly give my husband the highlights of whatever I'm reading, but, in this case, I feel that I just can't give the story justice. It needs to be taken as a whole; the lovely blending of scientific history and personal narrative; even better, the author becomes a character in the story as well. Enlightening
