Miss Minerva Lane is a quiet, bespectacled wallflower, and she wants to keep it that way. After all, the last time she was the center of attention, it ended badly - so badly that she changed her name to escape her scandalous past. Wallflowers may not be the prettiest of blooms, but at least they don't get trampled. So when a handsome duke comes to town, the last thing she wants is his attention.

I loved this book. It had a great storyline, love, mystery and well developed characters. As most writers a bit of repetition on pints and a bit of page fillers but overall I was very pleased with the book. The only thing I wish I had seen more of was passion. This was my first book by C. Milan and I can assure you it will not be my last. I highly recommend it.

This is a book about a girl who runs away from her parents at 18 and tries to make it on her own. She plays a guitar in train stations to earn some money to eat and sleeps in shelters to survive the nights. In her attempt to get a tattoo she meets the hero who then helps her get off the streets. Their love is cute and simple and the story a bit predictable but I still enjoyed listening to it. I like the deaf hero, the brothers who would do anything for each other and their determination to help their sick brother. A short story of about 6 hrs.

In general I really enjoyed the book. The narrator can not do a good job for the hero’s British accent to save her life. Aside from that the heroine’s character is very weak to the point it gets quite frustrating all throughout the book. The heroine gets cut off by her father to teach her a lesson and throughout the book we see her struggles to stay afloat. There are days where she supposedly has no money to even eat and yet she continues to pay a cell phone bill when her ex (the freeloader) takes her phone with him. Oh yes and when the freeloader comes by he always manages to eat a sandwich when she can't find anything to eat herself. Yah Right!!! And she can’t say see ya???? Super weak character. Not sure how anyone with that personality type can ignite passion in a very confident, very handsome James Bond type character but then I guess that’s where I am wrong.

Other supporting characters were not too well developed and the hero’s background is not well explained. Some explanation is given but not that in depth.

Overall the story was good, if you can overlook her personality, and I loved the hero’s character. The book is written in Julia London’s style. So if you are a fan and are not the type to get peaked by character flaws and white magic then go for it, otherwise read some of her other books.

As a woman who was also physically abused during a short-lived marriage, I was not forewarned well enough before reading this book. The story hit too close to home for me but I only found myself in short spurts of tension before I was relieved.

This was my first book with magical creatures and ghosts and yet I found myself enjoying those parts greatly. I was glad to see that the heroine was not depicted as a strong, self sufficient, self-reliant blah, blah, blah, after she left her abusive husband. That would have completely ruined it for me. The story was very believable with true fears and weaknesses shown by the heroine. It was a wonderful mixture of love, suspense, and heartfelt emotional ups and downs. What a ride.

I have always LOVED LK books, but I admit the stories usually have a darker side to them. Characters are never perfect and may even have a physical challenge. Not so here. The hero has done some things in the past he is not proud of, but it is all in the past.
Both the hero and heroine are loyal, sweet and giving making it very easy as a reader to fall in love with them. As always you will also enjoy well developed supporting characters in addition to a main animal, in this case a bull, as depicted in the cover. If you enjoy LK, NB duo, this book will not disappoint.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Parts unrealistic for the times depicted in this book. As another reviewer said, “some of the premises are unrealistic, this is fiction, and who knows intelligent men could have used women as spies and then claimed all the credit. It is done all the time.”

Read this book if you want a strong hero, very sigh worthy :), a beautiful strong heroine, and a nice mystery to tie the story all together nicely. A must read.

The Harris List of Covent Garden Ladies, that wickedly witty annual register of the city's light-skirts, was once a grand London tradition. Now, as all of Europe is celebrating the end of the long wars, the scheming Lord Marstoke has revived it - and transformed it into a weapon to be used against his runaway fiancée and the old enemy who helped her escape.

The story begins with the Duke of Aldmere walking in on the Marquess of Marstoke and finding him attacking a young woman in a room set far away from the crush they were attending. He quickly finds out that the lady is Bynne Wilmott, the marquess’s finace. Having been saved from a rape, she runs home to her father to tell him about her sadistic fiancé hoping her father would end the engagement. To her horror, her father defends the man and insists their marriage goes on as planned. To protect herself she runs away to the Half moon House run by an ex courtesan Hestia Wright. Shortly after living there and trying to get her life back in order, she discovers the "The Harris List of Covent Garden Ladies" is to be published ruining not only her but also Hestia Wright. Discovering that the author of the list is the Duke of Aldmere’s brother, she asks for his assistance in locating and destroying the list. In the process they discover that the list has a much grander plan.

Though the plot was developed nicely, the ending to this master plan to ruin so many came too easily. Throughout almost the entire book, the story built up the reason behind writing the list and yet within a quick few pages, it all gets resolved and they all live happily ever after.

I also was disappointed that this book was listed under HR and yet not much romance took place except one scene at the very end of the story. I did not want to have the focus of my HR to be mystery, which was what this book should have fallen under. I enjoy mystery when it is nicely balanced with romance but not when it is the primary plot and romance takes a backseat. Misleading for sure. So read it if you enjoy reading mystery novels. I would give this book 4 stars for mystery and a 2 stars for romance.

When Aurora Hyatt loses her journal in Hyde Park, her ruin is a foregone conclusion. After all, if anyone discovers her writings, they'll find scandalous fantasies involving the newest rake in town alongside entirely-too-candid thoughts about her typical dreary suitors. Aurora will either be forced into a loveless marriage with the first nodcock to make an offer, or she'll be assigned a permanent position on the shelf. Oh, dear good Lord. What catastrophe will God smite down upon her next?

    Story

This is the story of lady Aurora who loves to write stories in her journal about the men in her life. After hearing about a reckless acting rake Quin, she decides to write about him without ever having met him. Quin’s grandfather insists he finds a suitable wife and settle down to produce heirs or risk being disinherited. He finds Aurora’s journal and after reading it decides she will do nicely as his wife. Quin attends a ball she is planning on going to and asks her to dance. During the dance he kisses her senseless and she does nothing to discourage him with the Ton watching. Since thoroughly compromised, they get married but another scandal begins that gets them running away to their country estate until the talks settle down.

I found the heroine too selfish and self-serving and the story ridiculous. Initially, she took her journal to the park so that her friend could read it while not only Aurora but also her friend were showing up with their gentlemen friends. I guess she assumed they would have plenty of “private” time for her friend to perusal her journal??? Then lost the journal? Really? My intelligence was insulted. Either she was not playing with a full deck or the author assumes us gullible especially since she did not even bother to change names in her journal.

After she got married, her husband asked her to make sure no one saw her stories and what does she do after that? She left it in a room with someone she did not even know to get a servant to bring in tea. I guess they did not have the rope to pull that alarmed a servant to see to their needs. UNLIKELY!!!!

After the second scandal her husband asked her not to write any more scandalous stories and yet she did and surprisingly again, (not really), took no care to hide it where no one including servants would run into it. The premise of the story seemed stupid and none of it rang true. They run away to the country to get away from scandal and yet decided to have a house party where everyone they invited attended. This would have never happened at that time.

The villain is also not properly dealt with and the story ended without their names ever being cleared, but somehow it all seemed to end ok. Do not waist your credit on this one.

I really wanted to give this 3.5 stars but unfortunately that is not possible with Audible. I enjoyed the first book okay and found the second not satisfying but this book, though it had a few good scenes, it was not very gripping. There is much too much “He said” “she said” in the book. After a while it gets very irritating. The only reason I decided to purchase this book was because of great Amazon as well as Audible reviews. I thought perhaps this book will be more engaging, but I was wrong. There really was no pull to draw you in as a listener/reader. The suspense added was weak and short lived. Overall if you just like to read HR and do not mind a weak story, then this can be an ok read, but when there are books like Lessons in French, why spend your credit on this one?

I saw the reviews but since the book was on sale I decided to take a chance. I admit there are some steamy sex scenes but the story is a bit flat. The hero falls for a girl he does not even initially find attractive but then sees how beautiful she is within the first chapter. The lovesick behavior takes place shortly after that. It is very unbelievable since she does nothing to strike this heat within him especially since he is made out to be super attractive and desirable and has women supposedly throwing themselves at him. I just did not see personality or physical attributes that made her that irresistible for the hero. Beyond this point though the Columbian Cartel is taken over and first and second men in command are taken over in their own property AND country by a handful of seals. Yes. You heard me correctly. If it were that easy, the US can wipe out the drug lords all over South America with just a handful of seals. Unbelievable story, unrealistic scenes and poorly developed characters. Stay away is all I can recommend.

I got this book on sale and am glad I did. In any case, this book is well worth the point even if not on sale. What you see in this book is good character and story development . The story is heartwarming especially when everyone in the hero’s town began accepting him into their lives when they have every reason not to. The bullet in the head gets solved much too simply for my taste and without much effort at all but the rest of the story ties neatly into each other creating a very nice and easy listen. The narrator does a very good job in this western historical as well.
