Definitely worth the credit. Could NOT stop listening to this book. Purchased it at 10 pm and stayed up till 2 am and even then it was the fear of being completely exhausted that made me turn my ipod off. I read the reviews as always and can’t believe one described Cam as abusive like the father. Did they even read the same book? Yes at the beginning the sexual attraction makes him say unkind things but this is what makes it real. Although I make a personal effort not to use what anyone tells me against them, ever, most people I have known want to hurt with their words when in similar situations. Even spouses, parents or siblings who can love you more than anything in the world can sometimes fall within the same trap. So this is a wonderful love story about passion, love and sacrifice. Best to focus on that than the three instances of harsh words said in the book if you want to get enraptured in this well worth your time love story. The narrator is a poor choice for this book so I guess that’s something else you’ll have to overlook. Take a chance and enjoy!
I have purchased books in series that were marked two hours or three and after listening to them was glad to see that Audible had made a mistake in listing the length of the book correctly. I was hoping they had made a mistake on this book as well when I purchased it but was surprised to actually see that the book was as long as long as Audible had listed it for. I liked the story and felt that it should have and could have been longer but the love story seemed so rushed. I don't think the book was worth my credit at all even though I liked it. It just needed a lot more.
A story of love, passion and misunderstandings. The hero’s character seemed to be aligned with the times but the heroin’s character seemed a bit weak when it came to sex but strong and fearless in all other aspects. I have to say though that it was strange to read about orgies the stepmother held. These openly held and viewed and participated orgies were not at all something I thought matching that time period. Overall I give this book a 4. Entertaining but not exceptional.
A good read but the heroin was certainly eccentric. Perhaps in books it’s easy to find a man with the hero’s qualities to fall for someone this different from himself but in real life I find it hard to believe this can stand true. This is the one aspect I did not like about the book because I found it hard to relate to. Aside from that I liked the way the two love stories got presented and their timing. I would have liked to give this book a 3.5 but again since I can not, I gave it a four star rating.
An absolute MUST read. While I was reading this book I had an amazing feeling of being detached from this life. The story kept playing in my head when I was actually not reading the book. The story truly took me back into this time period more so than any other historical romance I have read to date and I’ll have to say I owe it greatly to Nicholas Boulton’s superb reading performance. I absolutely LOVE this man’s gift. It is also extremely well written. What a wonderful combination of talents.
The wonderful combination of Lisa Kelypas and Rosalyn Landor kept me hooked on the book. I admit I used to not like R. Landor very much but the more books I have listened to with her narration, the more I have grown to like her. For someone with such a masculine voice she certainly does a wonderful female voice. This is one of my favorite Kleypas books because I can truly see something like this happening in real life. Someone who risks her standing in society and bares the snubbing’s from the Ton to keep the love she desires with a man of lower standing. A definite must read!!!
The book was not as great as I had hoped. The heroin seemed simple minded and naive. She had a good heart and beauty but that's it. A bit disappointing so I can not recommend this book unless if you are willing to listen through this for the few funny moments here and there.
I admit I was liking the story a lot up until it backtracked to 170 years before that point in time and the hero began to live as his great, great, grandfather. It was too much time devoted to reliving the past for my taste. However, once it was done, I realized why it was so important to have that section in the book. It ended up being such a sweet story that I almost felt my heart skip a beat. S Duerden was also as amazing as always. A definite must buy.
This was my first Julia Quinn book and I did enjoy it though she used terms that did not fit the time properly. If you are willing to overlook that then the book was very entertaining. I would have given the book a 4.5 if it was available but well including it here is just as well. The only thing I did not like about this book was the ten things JQ kept listing in the book. A bit silly especially since they were not all meaningful points. Nevertheless, If you like historical romance then this book is a good one to listen to.
This was a very good book and I enjoyed it thoroughly especially since Susan Duerden with her great male raspy voice imitation makes the stories that much more interesting. EJ’s books always have a strong heroin and men that not only appreciate but love women like that. It is also nice to read about the heroin in this book especially since she transforms herself for the better. Overall a solid 4.
Tracy Anne Warren is a great storyteller. I enjoyed her Trap trilogy so much that I now look for her work everywhere. Although I enjoyed that series best, I strongly recommend this one as well. This is a short, but well written and read story worth the point. I especially love her passionate scenes and for those interested in a fairytale series, this one's for you.
