  • Stop Walking on Eggshells: Taking Your Life Back When Someone You Care about Has Borderline Personality Disorder

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 2 mins)
    • By Randi Kreger, Paul T. Mason
    • Narrated By Kirsten Potter

Do you feel manipulated, controlled, or lied to? Are you the focus of intense, violent, and irrational rages? Do you feel you are "walking on eggshells" to avoid the next confrontation? Here's help.

Ian says: "Really clears things up"
    "Really clears things up"

After having a relationship with someone with BPD, it really made everything make sense.
I never even knew what really was until this book, which really had me saying "yes, that's it exactly" over and over. It helped clear up so many issues that were still standing out in my memory and make sense of it all.

  • DMT: The Spirit Molecule: A Doctor's Revolutionary Research into the Biology of Near-Death and Mystical Experiences

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 21 mins)
    • By Rick Strassman
    • Narrated By Arthur Morey

From 1990 to 1995, Dr. Rick Strassman conducted U.S. government–approved and funded clinical research at the University of New Mexico in which he injected 60 volunteers with DMT, one of the most powerful psychedelics known. His detailed account of those sessions is an extraordinarily riveting inquiry into the nature of the human mind and the therapeutic potential of psychedelics. DMT, a plant-derived chemical found in the psychedelic Amazon brew ayahuasca, is also manufactured by the human brain.

Evan says: "A must-have for anyone interested in anything."

    What an interesting listen!
I loved this book. Especially the descriptions of the various experiences of the test subjects. It really blows your mind to even merely consider the theories being presented here. I hope to soon see more books in this category.
    Five stars all the way!

  • Never Get a 'Real' Job: How to Dump Your Boss, Build a Business and Not Go Broke

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 15 mins)
    • By Scott Gerber
    • Narrated By Sean Pratt

A lot of business books hold your hand, make you feel good, and are set to convince you that your passion and “unique” business idea are enough to plow through your competition, garner new leads, and make millions just because you can write a business plan that says so. This is not that kind of book. A 20-something hustler, rainmaker, and boot-strapper, Scott Gerber here shows you how to overcome today’s chronic conditions of mass unemployment, underemployment, and dead-end 9-to-5s.

Ian says: "Decent information, but skip the first 30 minutes"
"Decent information, but skip the first 30 minutes"

I rarely write a bad review, but this one irked me.
There's some good tidbits of info in this book, but the first 30 minutes involves a haranguing of the reader, assuming you are a spoiled, egotistical, lazy brat who needs deflating before the information can be delivered. I'm not sure if its supposed to be funny or addressing a real social issue. Either way I paid for business advice, not a smarmy 30 minute talking down, when the point could have been made in 5 minutes max.
(I like when he says in a condescending tone "here's some free advice". We'll no its not quite free is it?)

Having said that, once the half hour of abuse ended there was some good information here and there that allowed me to get through to the end.

Overall though, if you're looking for a good, new business book, I'd recommend Super Rich instead. He delivers the same down to earth business advice without the condescending and passive aggressive attitude.

  • Super Rich

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 25 mins)
    • By Russell Simmons
    • Narrated By Black Ice
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Russell Simmons knows firsthand that wealth is rooted in much more than the stock market. True wealth has more to do with what's in your heart than what's in your wallet. Using this knowledge, Simmons became one of America's shrewdest entrepreneurs, achieving a level of success that most investors only dream about. No matter how much material gain he accumulated, he never stopped lending a hand to those less fortunate.

    Reginald says: "Great book......"
    "Even better then "Do You""

Delivering high minded truths in a very down to earth, New Yorker way.
He's able to deliver sound advice in very simple and easy to understand terms.
So simple that it seems strange that not everyone lives that way already.

  • Experiments in Truth

    • ORIGINAL (7 hrs and 46 mins)
    • By Ram Dass

From the beginning of his career in the 1960s, Ram Dass' retreats and lectures have been meticulously recorded and archived. Experiments in Truth is an historic collection of this legendary teacher's most important recordings. Join this pioneer of engaged spirituality for eight inspiring lectures, each one an indelible masterpiece of humor and insight about the spiritual journey today.

Suzanna Davis says: "Opens the heart and soul with truth and laughter"

Ram Dass is now one of my new all time favorites in this category.
He has a way of explaining very complicated ideas in a very simple way.
I don't normally write reviews, but for this one I had to because I enjoyed it so much.

  • Conversations with God Book 3: An Uncommon Dialogue

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 8 mins)
    • By Neale Walsch
    • Narrated By Neale Walsch, Edward Asner, Ellen Burstyn

Conversation with God is Neale Donald Walsch's account of his direct conversations with God, beginning in 1992 while Walsch was immersed in a period of deep depression. He composed a letter to God in which he vented his frustrations, and much to his surprise, even shock, God answered him. Focusing on the universal truths that influence all life, Conversations with God offers a picture of the way life could be better.

    Ian says: "Excellent!"

The best of the series, although some of it might be hard to wrap your head around. The format is done very nicely as it is the form of question and answer, as book 2 was made.

Certainly those with a dogmatic approach to god might have some trouble with it as it constantly challenges the classic ideas of what god really is.

I would love however to find out more about this lost advanced civilization. Its mentioned but they don't go much in depth into it.

  • A New Earth: Awakening To Your Life's Purpose

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 15 mins)
    • By Eckhart Tolle
    • Narrated By Eckhart Tolle
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Humanity now, perhaps more than in any previous time, has an opportunity to create a new, saner, more loving world. This will involve a radical inner leap from the current egoic consciousness to an entirely new one. In illuminating the nature of this shift in consciousness, Tolle describes in detail how our current ego-based state of consciousness operates. Then gently, and in very practical terms, he leads us into this new consciousness. We will come to experience who we truly are and learn to live and breathe freely.

Mr. Word Sponge says: "A Realized Being Shares In Person...a rare find."

    Extremely facinating!
I keep rewinding over and over again because he's so dead on.

One of the top 3 books I've read all year.

  • Life After Death: The Burden of Proof

    • ABRIDGED (4 hrs and 54 mins)
    • By Deepak Chopra
    • Narrated By Deepak Chopra

In Life After Death, Chopra draws on cutting-edge scientific discoveries and the great wisdom traditions to provide a map of the afterlife. It's a fascinating journey into many levels of consciousness. But far more important is his urgent message: Who you meet in the afterlife and what you experience there reflect your present beliefs, expectations, and level of awareness. In the here and now you can shape what happens after you die.

Sheila says: "Something to belive in."

Puts so many things into perspective, very deep.
I had to keep rewinding to completely understand everything. I don't normally write reviews, but this one is a very special book.

  • Jim Cramer's Real Money: Sane Investing in an Insane World

    • ABRIDGED (6 hrs and 9 mins)
    • By James J. Cramer
    • Narrated By Jim Cramer

How do we find hot stocks without getting burned? How do we fatten our portfolios and stay financially healthy? Former hedge-fund manager and longtime Wall Street commentator Jim Cramer explains how to invest wisely in chaotic times, and he does so in plain English, in a style that is as much fun as investing is, or should be, when it's done right.

Ian says: "Great book but quite heavy"
    "Great book but quite heavy"

Lots of great information in this book, but probably not a lot that you will use unless you really want to get deep into the market.

Mad Money goes even deeper if you really want to get into trading rather than investing.

If you want a more passive approach to investing then read Rule #1.

  • The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 18 mins)
    • By Timothy Ferriss
    • Narrated By Ray Porter

The 4 Hour Work Week explains what a lifestyle entrepreneur is and why you should want to become one. It teaches you how to "kill" your job and design a life, the 80/20 rule and how it increases productivity, how to replace your dreams with goals, and more. Listeners can lead a rich life by working only four hours a week, freeing up the rest of their time to spend it living the lives they want.

Tim says: "Some good ideas but, not so sure. . ."
    "Some good points but oversimplified"

I bought this book because I'm also 28 and have been living a similar kind of life, leaving boring work in Canada, and moving to europe to pursue a career as a DJ.

He does have a lot of good points about managing time better, and pursuing your goals, using the internet, but the fails to take into account the sacrifices as well as background, that are made to live this kind of life, as well as the different outlook someone has in their 20's.

The narrator reads in a sarcastic, negative way which I didn't particularly like.

Its good to delegate work when needed, but delegating communication in personal relationships goes a bit too far.

I believe in doing everything to build your dream, but it seems like this speaks more about avoiding work.

Once you have outsourced your entire life and personal relationships and have traveled everywhere you want to go, what then?

Read Think and Grow Rich, Bryan Tracy or Wayne Dyer. They paint a much more complete and broader picture of success really is.
