They burned her home. They stole her brother and sister. But vengeance is following. Shy South hoped to bury her bloody past and ride away smiling, but she'll have to sharpen up some bad old ways to get her family back, and she's not a woman to flinch from what needs doing. She sets off in pursuit with only a pair of oxen and her cowardly old step father Lamb for company. But it turns out Lamb's buried a bloody past of his own. And out in the lawless Far Country the past never stays buried.

This is as good as the First Law Trilogy. I found myself sitting in the car to just listen to a few more minutes and was disappointed that it had to end. It's a great story filled with vibrant characters. Next to Lamb I really enjoyed the appearance of Nicola Cosca. Dark, gritty and pretty much not a single "good" guy among the characters, I love this book and the world Abercrombie creates. Steven Pacey is the perfect narrator for these stories. I can't wait for another one.

Lily Owens has shaped her entire life around one devastating memory - the day her mother was killed. When she and her "stand-in-mother," a fierce-hearted black woman named Rosaleen, are taken in by an eccentric trio of black beekeeping sisters, Lily enters a secret world of bees and honey, and of the Black Madonna who presides over this household of strong, wise women.

This is not typically the type of book I read, but I loved the book and the narrator did a wonderful job. I had a hard time stopping my mp3 player at times!
