I enjoyed this novel - never read previous books by Anthony Bourdain. Very interesting, never lost my attention. It would have been a better listened if narrated by a good professional narrator. At times, Bourdain rushed through sentences too quickly with too little intonations. However overall, glad I bought it.

No. The story seemed to switch from one primary character to another... hard to tell who the main protagonist was. There were so many characters and changes of scene, that it was hard to tell who some of the speakers were supposed to be. There wasn't really any character portrayed with much depth. Characters spoke in conversations, but there wasn't any narrative about what people were thinking or why.

It's an adequate vacation read, but not a satisfying novel.

The most interesting aspect was the step by step "reveal" of how the villain managed to frame the victim's husband.

That's my problem. While Dana apparently is a continuing character, there was little done to develop her as a full and real person... and I didn't identify with her issues of excess violence while defending herself because of past, but unexplained, experiences. I didn't particularly like or dislike her.. but not motivated to read another in the series.

I did not like that the main character did not take care of himself given his longstanding medical condition. I can't feel much sympathy for someone who keeps having urgent medical situations but eats poorly and doesn't have his meds nearby. The other characters were very thin and lacked depth.

Narrator has a high pitched voice and speaks in an unnatural cadence. Her slow pacing and odd inflections make her narration sound like she is reading a book to kindergartners. I did not finish the book because the narration was too irritating.

I regret not finishing it, because the author's content is valuable to me... I may end up buying it in book form instead. Perhaps Amazon would let me exchange the audiobook for the Kindle book.

Descriptions of cruelty, forced oral sex, depravity sprinkled throughout first few chapters. Despite the plot description which sounded like clever use of computer technology, the plot involving technology took second place to the disgusting narrative. I quit trying after a few chapters --- feeling that completing the book would be masochism. I don't consider this trash to be literature even if the technology plot is interesting. Why would people want to listen to this?

I purchased this because of advertising from Audible lauding the plot and technical expertise of the author. There was nothing in the review information that suggested that there would be such explicit descriptions of depraved behavior. I am disappointed and this will make me extra cautious in choosing future purchases.

For me, this was an interesting story and very good narration. I looked forward to each listening installment.

This was a pretty good sci fi story - it kept my interest. However, the book seemed to take forever to finish. The narrator has lengthy pauses after every sentence and often, in the middle of a sentence. I would not choose a book by this narrator again. My disappointment with the listening experience caused me to lose interest frequently. I might read the actual book, though, especially if there were a sequel.

The narrator tried to use different voices for the various characters in this book. Unforttunately she chose the most irritating "little girl" voice for the heroine who is supposed to be a university professor. It made it excruciating to finish the story. The book itself starts out fairly well, but the story line got lamer as it progressed.... with the events and behavior of the characters becoming more ludicrous. A very disappointing listen.

This was the most compelling "thriller" type of audiobook that I've enjoyed in a long while. I couldn't wait to listen further to find out what happens in the story. The narrator was excellent.
