This astonishing novel was chosen as a Best Book of the Year by the Los Angeles Times, Entertainment Weekly, Publisher's Weekly and Newsweek. Contained within is the story of Edgar Mint, the half-Apache, mostly orphaned child who overcomes a serious childhood injury to embark on a life of tragedies, including a boarding school for Native Americans and a dysfunctional Mormon foster family.

    "One of my favorites"
    Overall

I've downloaded close to 100 books from Audible and this has to be one of my top 5 favorites.
A great story and a wonderful lead character.
The reader was also excellent. He handled dialogue from a range of characters with great versatility. Even his recreation of the occasional sound was a plus and not an intrusion.
I'll look for more books from the author and the narrator.

Meet Jonathan Quinn: a freelance operative with a take-no-prisoners style and the heart of a loner. His job? Professional "cleaner". Nothing too violent, just disposing of bodies. But his latest assignment will change everything. The job seemed simple enough: investigating a suspicious case of arson. But when a dead body turns up, and Quinn's handlers at "the Office" turn strangely silent, he knows he's in over his head. With only a handful of clues, Quinn struggles to find out why someone wants him dead.

If Scott Brick were a film actor, he would fire his agent for getting him this role.
I found this shallow and un-involving. I just couldn't figure out who these people were and gave up caring.
For this genre, I feel the Vince Flynn books are 10 times better.

Few can rival attorney Andy Carpenter's affection for golden retrievers, especially his own beloved Tara. After he astonishes a New Jersey courtroom by successfully appealing another golden's death sentence, Andy discovers that this gentle dog is a key witness to a murder that took place five years before. Andy pushes the boundaries of the law even further as he struggles to free an innocent man by convincing an incredulous jury to take canine testimony seriously. It will take all the tricks Andy's fertile mind can conceive to get to the bottom of a remarkable chain of impersonations and murder, and to save a dog's life - and his own - in the process.

    "Great Fun Whodunit"

This is the 3rd Andy Carpenter book that I have listened to. I wish there were more available.
The narrator does a great job and 'is' the character.

    More please.

There isn't much fun in the sun when a billionaire real estate tycoon is found murdered on the Tilt-a-Whirl at a seedy seaside amusement park in the otherwise quiet summer tourist town of Sea Haven. John Ceepak, a former MP just back from Iraq, has just joined the Sea Haven police department. The job offer came from an old Army buddy who hoped to give Ceepak at least a summer's worth of rest and relaxation to help him forget the horrors of war. Instead, Ceepak will head up the murder investigation.

    Overall

I'm not sure where I read about comparisons to Hiaasen...but this sophomoric tale doesn't make it. I realise that the protagonist is supposed to be quite young and, to that extent, the narrator does a good job. But it's all too 'gee whiz' for me. I read (and listen) to a lot of crime fiction and enjoy many different styles including the humourous and offbeat. But I was very disappointed in this book.
