"Unlikely but entertaining!"
While I thought the story was quite unlikely I still enjoyed how it was told. It was surprisingly gripping for such a far-fetched tale. I will be getting more books by this author.
"Goes on forever!"
I love Tom Clancy but this book goes on forever and get bogged down in the military and political intrigue. It doesn't help that the narrator is too soft spoken for me to understand easily. I liked the book okay overall and it is sure a bargain if you pay by the word but I rate this pretty low compared to some of his other great books. It does tell an essential part of the Jack Ryan storyline so it's still a must read if you want to know Jack...
"Only Tom Clancy can make me enjoy war and politics"
Only Tom Clancy can make me enjoy listening to a story full of war and political intrigue! This isn't his best ever book but it is well worth the read!
"Love Castle and had to check out the book..."
Since I love the TV series Castle, I had to check out this book. It was cute and very much as represented on TV. Certainly not great literature but still good fun!
"Not bad but not gripping"
I have very little sympathy for the main character and the story is fuzzy in places. She finds a man dying and instead of calling an ambulance for him she puts a book in her pocket. I don't regret buying this book but I probably won't get the rest of the series unless someone i trust tells me that have gotten better.
"As good as ever!"
If you loved the previous stories you will love this one also! My only complaint is that I'd like Jeff Lindsay to stop reading his own books. Yes, he does fine but the guy that used to do them was better. You'd think that after becoming rich he'd spread the wealth around and let a professional present his story.
"Enough child rape already!"
I have and like all the 'In Death" books but I hate the places where she always goes back to the childhood rape and abuse. This is the worst one as it continually drums at it. I like the backstory that explains how she came to be but once you've heard it you don't need it a long repeat of it in every single edition. Also, I'm not a prude but I don't need a long drawn out description of the sex. I like the mysteries better than the soft porn...
"Under the Spell..."
I don't usually like 'young adult' books. I loved Inkheart and Inkspell and I'm looking forward to Inkdeath. It was difficult for me to believe that it was originally written in German. It seems so natural in English. After I listened to it I listened to it again with my husband. He said he thought it started slow but once he got into it then he really liked it also. The same person who insisted on me reading Harry Potter recommended this series to me. I believe her now if she makes a recommendation.
"lots of research"
I'd probably like this story more if it stayed with the Merle story more. I didn't like listening to all the research, some of which really wandered from the story. I took many of the Merle stories with more than a grain of salt!
