Set in 2082, Peter Watts' Blindsight is fast-moving, hard SF that pulls readers into a futuristic world where a mind-bending alien encounter is about to unfold. After the Firefall, all eyes are locked heavenward as a team of specialists aboard the self-piloted spaceship Theseus hurtles outbound to intercept an unknown intelligence.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

someone who is more of sci-fi reader who doesn't mind having vampires thrown into the mix

What could Peter Watts have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

too much jargon that left me wondering "what is that; what does that term mean. I would have liked a little more plot setting after the initial scene.

What does T. Ryder Smith bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Frankly, I got this book because the synopsis and the sample sounded good, but mostly because I really like T.Ryder Smith as a narrator. Unfortunately, he couldn't save this one for me.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Blindsight?

I don't think it would fair for me to say, since I bailed on it after about two hours

Refuge, New Hampshire, is a small town. The kind found on postcards. Their biggest concern is the rowdy summertime revelers making their way up from Massachusetts and New York. And with most of the town's residents in neighboring Ashland, for the Fourth of July fireworks show, Refuge is quieter than usual. That is, until the Baptist church's bell starts ringing - on its own. The bell chimes faster and faster, reaching a frenetic pace, as though rung by the Devil himself. But the bell is just the beginning.

Would you try another book from the authors and/or Jeffrey Kafer?

    No way

What could the authors have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

    Quit watching bad movies

How did the narrator detract from the book?

He was as bad as the authors

What character would you cut from Refuge Omnibus Edition?

    Any and all

    Any additional comments?

Need I say more? I wasted a credit on this p.o.s. I listened to it all because I could not believe it could get worse. It did. It was the "plane nine from outer space"

Bill Bryson has been an enormously popular author both for his travel books and for his books on the English language. Now, this beloved comic genius turns his attention to science. Although he doesn't know anything about the subject (at first), he is eager to learn, and takes information that he gets from the world's leading experts and explains it to us in a way that makes it exciting and relevant.

Corby says: "Very informative, fun to listen to"

What disappointed you about A Short History of Nearly Everything?

Bryson is an incredible writer. I am a huge fan, but all of his books just come off better when he reads them. His humor is so dry and subtle that only he can pull it off, IMO.

What other book might you compare A Short History of Nearly Everything to and why?

Loved "at home"...very interesting and Bryson read it

How did the narrator detract from the book?

He didn't. I just wanted to hear Bryson' voice

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from A Short History of Nearly Everything?

    Can't say
