Chief Inspector Armand Gamache and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it's nothing more than a tragic hunting accident, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods.

I loved this book and the narrator was perfect. This is a gentle mystery with no violence but filled instead with compassion and a real moral compas. I grew very fond of the villagers and of Gamache (Chief Inspector) who I would love to have as a neighbour....and there is enough mystery to keep fans happy. I give this five stars and if I could give the narrator ten if I would.

On England's green and pleasant land there are dark rumblings of concrete mixers, bulldozers and planning committees, local and ministerial. In Rapstone Manor, Lady Grace Fanner is dying, defiant to the last. Awaiting the event is the Right Honourable Leslie Titmuss MP, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Housing, Ecological Affairs and Planning (HEAP).

This is John Mortimer at his best and. Paul Shelly's narration is compelling....as close to perfect as I have ever heard.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

    "Listen to this book"
    Overall

This is one of those books that beg to be listened to. All the narrators do a magnificent job, the story is compelling and beautifully written. I thought I knew what it was like to be black and live in the deep South in the early sixties. I didn't really know until I listened to this book. It packs an emotional wallop that left me both angry and a little hopeful at the end.
