Very little happens, and what does happen is accidental rather than arising from the innate motives of a character. Therefore as the plot unfolds there is no character development and thus not much interest. Sadly, Darcy is relegated to an incidental character not much involved in plot development. This is the least interesting of the series.
Whatever were the producers thinking? Did they listen to the performer? As others have said, she sounds like she's reading to very young children. Be sure to listen to the preview before you buy.
The Aunt Dimity series is so enjoyable, gentle and engaging. Too bad it's spoiled in this production.
Yes to Atherton, no to Linden
Her pace and stiff pronunciation distract from the story. It's like listening to a robot.
The story is entertaining, the narrator ruined it.
The narrator makes strong emotions sound like petulance. Instead of the characters seeming forceful, they seem whiney.
This is an action series. More than half of this book was taken up with excruciatingly detailed depictions of the political maneuvering. The too few action sections portrayed unlikely scenarios with little suspense about the outcome.
disappointment, then boredom
A skilled writer can deliver an intriguing plot and interesting characters in a short format. Not, unfortunately a skill demonstrated by this author. The narrator was quite good, far above the quality of the material she had to work with.
