"WONDERFUL ENGAGING STORY and PERFECT NARRATION"
The story had a wonderful pace. It's suspenseful and beautifully written. No boring dragged out places and the character development was fabulous. I highly recommend this book. It truly is a piece of art.
The narrator pulled off many characters. Amazing TALENT!
"Exciting and well written"
This is book 2, you might want to read Shipbreaker first. But, it's not really necessary I guess. Be prepared for lots of blood, but it's all so fitting in this series. You get so used to it because that is the way it is in those drowned cities. Very cool and possible world Paolo makes. I am so glad I have read these, they completely take you away.
"ABSOLUTELY FASCINATING BOOK"
This is an extremely well written book that kept my attention the entire time, which is hard to do with non-fiction. The way he teaches scientific findings makes it so easy to remember them and absorb permanently. I found myself tracking people down to share things I learned. This is not for only brainy people, this was written for the average person who wants to learn brainy things and remember them. He is my hero. I do have one gripe though. The book starts out with the author reading in an extremely annoying way. His voice kept cracking like he was going through puberty. I almost returned the book because I just couldn't absorb the contents being so annoyed. But then, like magic, he fixed his voice and actually has a very pleasant reading style. Full of energy and enthusiasm. Just hang tough, get through that part and you will be so happy you did!
"Good INFO but..."
The writer SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO NARRATE THEIR OWN BOOKS!! Good gawd, she was awful. Such a downer that made it hard to grasp what she was saying. Not dramatic downer, no, a "I am just reading this book without any interest or voice inflections in the least". It was painful. Too bad because the content of her book was good. I suggest reading this book with your eyes to avoid her ruining it.
"Educational and humorous and incredible"
T.C. Boyle is one of the most creative imaginative writers this world has known. The way he words some of the most simple mundane things makes me giggle and emphasize. He covers topics that we can walk away with feeling like we actually learned something. This man is truly gifted. At first the narrator drove me crazy with his fast paced downer style. But then by the end, I realize that no one else could have pulled this off better. Just the right personality. Still, though, I wish he would have slowed it down a pace, especially in the beginning while we are still trying to grasp the story.
"Overall great summary covering everything you need"
David touches on everything it seems. The book is not boring and perfectly paced. I learned so many facts about being a writer that I'm more confident in my future journey without so many mind clogging questions. He exposes his own personal life which helps tremendously for understanding what's ahead. Great work!
"Incredibly S L O W .."
I was begging for it to leave out some unimportant details, I wanted something climactic to happen. It was so very slow I was squirming to please please end so I can see what heppens. But, what? no payoff? I have to read the other billion painfully slow books?? The idea and writing are beautiful though. But, it's like she extended it three times longer than it should have been.
"I wasn't always in the mood for this book"
This is really a wonderful always exciting, never a boring moment love story. I wasn't always in the mood for this book though because I wasn't always in the mood for a steamy graphic sex scene when working out or waiting for my turn in a crowded DMV, which this first book is FULL of. Thank gawd the second book has more of a story than sex scene to sex scene. The reader is WONDERFUL. She reads all the characters perfectly and translates what might have read stiff by the eyes, quite helpful to the ears. The main character, who is first person, really lets you feel as though you can relate completely. The thing that did bother me though is how easily and often she orgasms. Seems a bit unrealistic. But then, it all is. I guess that is why we all love this book.
It would be far too exhausting to listen to this entire book in one sitting. Break it up, you will need to.
"Learned so much about subject"
This book really helps me understand doing business with China. I had no idea that there was this life going on overseas. They really rely on us bringing them work. Its very educational and entertaining. I just think it dragged in parts especially following the author's heritage. That got a little boring and I got lost. But there is no book like this and everyone should know where everything we use daily comes from. How much labor goes into everything and how PEOPLE make it all, not machines.
"Great story, teenager book"
I loved the world I was taken to. I just think this book stays at the age level its intended for. Its a wonderful book but not really for adults as much as teens. Sort of copies Hunger Games but a little different so it was hard not to compare.
