In this tautly woven tour de force, the paths of four very different women intersect, briefly but significantly, in ways that will change each of them forever. MacKenzie Bezos’s Traps is a propulsive exploration of the snares we build for ourselves, and of how life’s trials and reversals can lead to startling freedoms. Dana is a beautiful young security guard trained in special ops can disarm a bomb or suture a wound but is terrified of committing to the man she loves. Lynn is a fiercely independent older woman living alone in Nevada and running a ranch for rescued dogs.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

It reminds me of a summer book, as it really meanders to its destination.

What was most disappointing about MacKenzie Bezos’s story?

The pace was a little slow.

Which character – as performed by Dina Pearlman – was your favorite?

All of them, she really helped make the story!!

Do you think Traps needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, not if it's at the same pace.

    Any additional comments?

Worth the money if it's offered on sale.

Denise and Derrek Shaw are the perfect American couple. Happily married for 15 years, they have a wonderful daughter, Mackenzie, successful careers, and a beautiful house in a posh Chicago suburb. They are attractive, respected...and hiding a shocking secret: a dangerous addiction to drugs. It started innocently enough. Denise occasionally used prescription drugs to help her deal with the long hours and demanding nature of her job. Derrek, also under pressure at work, began using cocaine socially with some of his colleagues. They can quit whenever they want to. At least, that's what Denise would like to believe....

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The story was not creative at all. Very basic storyline.

Would you ever listen to anything by Kimberla Lawson Roby again?

    NEVER.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The different voices she used were distracting and exaggerated, kind of like she was narrating a children's book.

What character would you cut from The Perfect Marriage?

There are quite a few of them, where to start...

    Any additional comments?

Really, don't waste your money on this. It is not a good use of time.
