With a career, a boyfriend, and a loving family, Piper Kerman barely resembles the reckless young woman who delivered a suitcase of drug money 10 years ago. But that past has caught up with her. Convicted and sentenced to 15 months at the infamous federal correctional facility in Danbury, Connecticut, the well-heeled Smith College alumna is now inmate #11187-424 - one of the millions of women who disappear "down the rabbit hole" of the American penal system.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I hated having to turn off my audible so I could go about my day. This book made my commute one of the best parts of my day, which is a feat, as I live in NYC.

    I laughed, I cried, I raved, I ranted.....god I love this book.

    Any additional comments?

If you're expecting the tv show, you have got another thing coming. This is a real life account of Piper Kerman's life in prison, and it is beautifully written, compelling, with a serious call to action on the state of today's prison system.

While I love the tv show....I loved this book, for completely different reasons. Trust me, it's a good one.

Where does The Bone Season rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I listen to quite a bit of YA supernatural or dystopian novels...i.e. your Hunger Games, your Mortal Instruments/Infernal Devices, your Pures, Lunar Chronicles, Shatter Me's, Divergents, etc. The Bone Season fits in well to the genre. I didn't love it as much as I loved Hunger Games or Harry Potter, or the Pure series, but it exists in a really cool world with an almost film noir feel to it.

    Any additional comments?

Sometimes, especially in the beginning, I had no idea what the hell was going on in this universe. I am not sure but I think there was a kind of map or chart which shows the reader the different kinds of clairvoyants, or something to that nature. I didn't have that, so I was SUPER confused as to what she was talking about...

That being said, once she gets to Sheol 1, I started getting a better idea of the different kinds of clairvoyants existing in the Bone Season universe.....but...i could still not tell you the difference between an Auger and a Clairomancer or whatever......

I did really like the book though. I am excited to see what happens next to Paige and the seals.

Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky. In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grown dangerously low. And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war. Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages - not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color.

Would you listen to Daughter of Smoke and Bone again? Why?

I would certainly read it again. It is really engrossing, and superbly written. The prose the author uses is just dripping with beautiful descriptions of places I have never been, but wish I could go.

Have you listened to any of Khristine Hvam’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Just as good. She was one of the readers of Pure by Juliana Baggott, and her voice lends itself perfectly.

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead.

I loved this book and so far, I love this series. I listen to it on the subway and laugh out loud, making people around me think I am a crazy person. If you need lighthearted supernatural fluff, this is the book for you.

When 15-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing, not even a smear of blood, to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

I was super into the book, the story is great, and engrossing. The narrator, on the other hand? Just. Awful.
