Thank goodness I got this one on a $4.95 sale and didn't use a credit. This book is totally ridiculous. There may be a suspense story in there somewhere but it gets lost with the trite, continuous and tacky romance themes. I'm all about a good love/sex scene but these are laughable! I would recommend this book for someone under 25 who still thinks what the author describes is humanly possible. I thought I could just read through the 'encounters' but they just take over the story. Definitely no recommendation from me.
I've read other things by this author and was so looking forward to this one. I couldn't seem to get into it. About mid-way through the second download, I called it quits - which I rarely do. I had a difficult time following the names, the background and the story in general. Too bad....I had wanted to like it.
Another Reacher hit. I can see a follow-up here with two of the characters, hope so anyway! My only complaint (shared by someone else who listened to this) was that mid-way during the second download there were several characters introduced. We kept getting them mixed up and confused mainly due to there rather difficult names. Glad I stuck with it (I almost didn't) because things wrapped up nicely.
I could probably pick this book apart but am such a Lee Child/Dick Hill/Jack Reacher fan that I have a sort of unconditional love of the series. Give this one a go.
I read this when it was first released and liked it. I've enjoyed nearly everything written by Ken Follett - he's a great story teller. Not too crazy, however, by the multiple readers, especially the female voice.
Tim Dorsey comes up with some of the most ridiculous phrases and situations one can imagine. When I first start one of his books, I think 'no, this is just too much' yet if I listen much beyond 15 minutes, I'm hooked! I typically read spy and murder mysteries and Dorsey is a nice switch to lighten up my listens! Give any of his books a go! I do prefer the previous reader. Serge sounded more Serge-like in the earlier books.
Another beautiful story by Khaled Hosseini. Like his other books, it is filled with sadness, hope and the importance of family. Unlike other readers who did not care for the narrations, they added so very much to the story. All the voices were understandable to me and made the story come alive. This is a story that spans generations and how the endless wars in Afghanistan have resulted in many levels of futility.
I must be the only person who wasn't enthralled over this book. It was okay.....3 stars or maybe 2.5. It just went on and on. By the time I was half way into the second download, I was ready to quit for good figured I was close to the end so finished. I just can't figure out what all the hype was about. The reader was fine and the story was fair. When I saw it had been given 4.5 stars on Audible reviews, I guess I expected more. It's just not all that.
I listened to this because it was written by James Lee Burke. It's a decent listen yet in no way compares to others by Burke. Does give the intro into Hackberry. Again, I only stuck with it because I'm a serious Burke fan! Otherwise, it gave me a hangover without having to take a drink!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and especially love the character Maggie! This is a clever listen with interesting twists and turns. Crais has done some in-depth research on dogs which gave good insight into the world of working dogs. He says at one point how dogs like to be petted from head to tail because it is reminiscent of how they were treated by their mothers. I tried this with my own dog and the affect was pretty amazing!! This book is not just about Maggie - it's a good 'who done it' as well. Give it a try.
I tried, I really did, to listen to this classic. I read it many years ago in high school and thought I'd like to revisit it. The reader was very hard to understand - partly because of the way the thing is written.....long, windy sentences relating to things not of the immediate story. I realize Dickens isn't a feel good writer but this was just a downer.
