Where does Noah rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have nearly 200 books so it is quite a compliment to say Noah is among my top 20.

What did you like best about this story?

I really admired how Noah fought so many seemingly unsurmoutable obsticals with his usual determination and steadfastness to create his own destiny.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Watching Noah begin to train his mate in the use of her power was fun, exciting, and tender all at the same time.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No - it was quite enjoyable to pace this one out over the course of several days.

    Any additional comments?

My second favorite in the series - definitely worth the credit!

That is the only positive thing I have to say about this book. For those of you who - like me - detest this book and regret buying it or spending a credit on it please keep in mind that you can return a book if you discover it isn't for you; I believe this is a very generous benefit that Audible offers.
There was so much hype about this book I felt I just had to read it but I should have followed my intuition (which was greatly influenced by the high number of negative reviews) and given it a pass. Between the un-believable naivete of the h to the ridiculous repetitive colloquialisms ("oh, my", "down there", "murmur", "wow", even the dreaded "like").
The narrator is I suppose appropriate for the child-like h but she is not at all suited to any type of "romance" book; hearing a childish voice describe an erotic scene is off-turning to me.
If I could give the book 0 stars I would and I am certainly going to ask for a refund (something I have done less than 10 times and I have a library of 1035 books).

    Story

Great premise, LD has developed a rich world to base this series in. There is plenty of room here for a nice long series.
This is an enjoyable first book though it does suffer just a bit from "first book syndrome." First I'll say LD does an impressively good job of presenting the world-building without grinding the plot and action to the pace of a dirge. There IS a slight feeling that LD is cramming a lot of characters in for the word count. Finally, while I am trying to limit my review to this specific book, after having listened to several of the next books in the series there is simply a discernible feeling that the writing "settles in" as you progress through the books.
The narration is top notch, both female and male voices are pleasant, there are clearly different voices for each character and - most importantly (to me) - the narration is consistent throughout.
I have only one complaint: the h suffers from a ridiculous phobia of nudity. This truly became tedious. It was plausible when the H/h relationship was new but she should have been able to lighten up as time went on. Even if she just couldn't handle it she was prudish to extremus during emergency (non-intimate) situations. It breaches the bounds of believability that she would put her preoccupation with her modesty before concern for life and limb.
I do want to make it clear that while I have spent a lot of space expressing my one minor sticking point the overall impact of the book is wonderful: 4.5 overall.

This is what happened: I met him at the candy store. He turned and smiled at me and I was surprised enough to smile back. This was not a children's candy store, mind you, this was the kind of place you went to buy expensive imported chocolate truffles for your boss' wife because you felt guilty for having sex with him when you were both at a conference in Milwaukee.

The story is mediocre with the primary female (El) an annoying 2 dimensional, self-centered girl who is terribly uninteresting opposite the primary male (Dan) who play-acts as a dominant giving orders 'because she wants to do what he says'. To make matters worse the narrator is fingernails-on-chalk board irritating. Her normal speaking voice and female characters are not bad though her phrasing is poor; the real tragedy is that her male voices are atrocious - they all sound like 3 pack-a-day for 20 year types.

This book represents my first exposure to both Jim Butcher and James Marsters and I found myself thoroughly enriched by the experience.
Mr. Butchers’ writing is intelligent, complex, irreverent, entertaining, challenging and inspiring – an incredible and refreshing mixture for such an humble genre as who-dunit noir mystery. Butcher utilizes some classic literary devices to great effect; for example he quite obviously opens the book with foreshadowing setting the tone for the whole book, I enjoyed this immensely. I found the characters to be nicely complex and either truly likeable as if they might be my own friends or absolutely disagreeable reminding me of schoolyard bullies. The plot was wonderful: driven by Harry’s formidable powers of investigation it was very rich and convoluted; I just barely kept up with each twist and turn – in fact I am not too proud to admit that I missed one or two.
Mr. Marsters does a marvelous job of narration – this is truly a performance, not simply a reading. He does well with female voices by not trying too hard to force them. He is very good at establishing a unique voice for each character in the book allowing the listener to give all of their attention to content and not to juggling who’s who. His performance is award worthy.

Would you consider the audio edition of Gideon to be better than the print version?

Yes, Ms. Sands truly adds an iditional layer of complexity to the story adding nicely to the experiencing.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that while Gideon brings his vast experience and grounded understanding of the world to this relationship he is still absolutely able/willing to appreciate his mates' abilities and potential to contribute to the Demon and Nightwalker community.

Have you listened to any of Xe Sands’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes I have - I've listened to all of the books in the Nightwalker series which are blessed by Ms. Sands's talents. Gideon is just as enjoyable as all of the others. It is also worth mentioning that the consistency of maintaining the same narrator (so long as it is a good one) really adds to the feeling of coheshion in the series.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Sure - there were some laughs and times of poinyency

    Any additional comments?

    Definitely worth the credit!

As reigning Vampire Prince, Damien has tasted every pleasure the world has to offer - consorting with kings and queens and delighting in sensual adventure. Now, tired of such pursuits, he devotes his energies to protecting his people. The war between human necromancers and Nightwalkers has escalated, and when the enemy makes a daring move, kidnapping Syreena, a Lycanthrope Princess, Damien boldly follows. He succeeds in rescuing her, but is unprepared for the erotic longing her lush sensuality awakens in him.

If you could sum up Damien in three words, what would they be?

    Interesting, complex, enjoyable

What other book might you compare Damien to and why?

Very similar to Elijas' story (same author, same world). The cross-spieceis story repeated the theme of reluctance to commit to the relationship and the introduction of new societal values due to the crosing of taboos. Of course Damiens' experience is more intense considering the consequences of the "exchange" upon the Nightwalker community.

What about Xe Sands’s performance did you like?

Ms. Sands performance is so comfortable and enjoyable. She allows the book to unfold in your mind with no distracting drawbacks of voicing or pacing. Her characterizations are very nice and really help you to keep track of who is speaking without having to wait for the authors' words to introduct each speaker.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

After the famed Prince of the Vampires is caught in the grips of passion and love, the Nightwalker community will never be the same.

    Any additional comments?

As I said, very enjoyable; however this book is not the strongest of the series. Considering my love of Damien I was slightly dissapointment. Still absolutely worth the credit!

Would you consider the audio edition of Captured by the Highlander to be better than the print version?

Yes, the narration helped to bring me into the story with the Highland and High English accents and affectations. The narrator was very good at separating characters and using inflection.

What other book might you compare Captured by the Highlander to and why?

It has a slight similarity to the Masters of Time series by Brenda Joyce given the setting and big virulent warriors. However it is markedly better. It is much better written than Joyce's books; it has more depth, more thought, greater character development, better plot. I'll be buying more of MacLean's books for certain.

What three words best describe Antony Ferguson???s voice?

    Warm, clear, versatile

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    "Kidnapping Love"

    Any additional comments?

The plot was very satisfying as it drew out the seduction of both of the main characters, one for the other - therefore my title Sweet Tension. I loved this book and the narration lent an extra layer of intimacy to the lovely story.
