I have become a fan of Di Morrissey's books and to date Barra Creek has to be my absolute favourite.

I'm not convinced she does romance well but having suspicions regarding the male romantic leads in hind sight probably created more believability and impact to the story.
Half way through I thought to myself what can Di Morrissey do to create a memorable story rather than one that was just easy to listen to and I must say she delivered.
    Well worth listening to.

I have never read a Di Morrisey book before and wasn't sue how I would find her as an author.
The main character hooked me in quickly and I became annoyed when the story shifted backwards to the 1930's to be about her grandmother. The chapters are long and I kept wondering how long I was going to have to wait.
The second time the story jumped backwards in time the story was more interesting and I started to enjoy the shift.
I was surprised that I found myself wondering what was going to happen next through the use of good storytelling.
Di Morressey doesn't utilize any shock techniques or outrageous situations, just a good genuine tale that keeps you interested.
I have since purchased 2 further Di Morressey audiobooks based on the strength of this book and Di Morressey has become my favorite adult author.

    Overall

I always have wanted to read a Nora Roberts book and I am hoping I just picked the wrong series from her. To be honest as hard as I try I can't even listen to the whole book. It reminds me of a long running tv series ( like Magnum PI was) where they know they are safe in their ratings so they throw out a cheap, rushed, corny horrible, forgettable episode that is unlike their usual stuff and that seems out of character. Couldn't tell you anything about the story as such because the way it was written put me off so much.

    Overall

I was anticipating a great read after absolutely loving the American Girls Mystery Riddle of the Prairie Bride, this book although good fell short of my expectations.
Perhaps it was the constant Loyalists vs. Patriots focus that doesn't grab my interest as much as some of the other eras that the American Girls History Series use.
The story also lacked any strong minor stories being interwoven into the story, or natural disasters or other exciting events like you see in a classic Nancy Drew Mystery.
That all said it is still a good book and the twist towards the end when you find out who is the informer is brings the sotry together well.

The beloved American Girl History Mysteries features intrepid girls faced with intriguing situations. The author of this installment, Kathryn Reiss, has received the ALA Best Book for Young Adults Award. In Riddle of the Prairie Bride, it's 1878 and Ida Deming and her papa are looking forward to meeting his mail-order bride. But is this woman really who she claims to be?

    Overall

The main character Ida Kate Deming is a very likable, young, responsible girl who takes over her mothers responsiblities after her mother has died. I loved the era references as poor Ida spent two whole days in the week to get the washing and ironing done for herself and her father.
The story starts 2 years down the track after Ida Kate's mother's death and Ida Kate's father puts a ad in a newspaper for a wife (refered to as a mail order bride) as a number of women reply. The mystery revloeves around the woman that Ida Kate's father chooses arrives and slowly Ida starts to believe she is an imposter and not the woman they have been corresponding with.
The story is heart felt, well paced, educational in its historical context, the reader is easy to listen to and the mystery unfolds to a pleasant ending.
Can't wait now to listen to another American Girl Mystery. Highly Recommended as my favourite audio book yet.
