"An OK story but very depressing"
OK I guess I would really give this a 3 and and a half stars if I could. It was a very well written book with an interesting enough storyline but my only issue was that is was depressing as heck! Really makes you never want to get old and senile or when you do get old make sure you have a loving family (or good insurance) around to take care of you. I typically read a book for entertainment and sometimes want it to be thought provoking but this was almost too depressing for my taste (read it for a book club) but it was an different kind of story for me so I guess it was good to broaden my horizons, right?
I doubt it...it was just too depressing for me
"Wow...a great thriller!"
not knowing why the bad guys were after Mike and his family until the 1/4 of the book
Kat, Mike's daughter
Mike leaving his daughter at the foster mom's home---so sad
I would have loved to but didn't have the the time
Wow, this was a great book! This is the first book I have read by Hurwitz and I will be adding more of his books to my "to be read" list. A great thriller with a lot of excitement and great characters. You knew right away who were the good guys (Mike Windgate and his family)and who were the bad guys but not until the last quarter of the book do you find out why the bad guys are are after Mike and his family. And the bad guys are very evil. This was a great read (or audio book as I listened to it) that is what we all look for in a thriller.
"Great story about friendship, love and small town"
the location and the characters
When the women in Mac's life tell him how clueless he is when it comes to women was a hoot.
Life, Love and Friendship in a small town
This was a fun light book after reading/listening to several intense thrillers. The writing is great and characters were likeable. There is a small mystery but mostly this is a cozy read about friendship, love and a small town. After an old Army buddy dies Cooper goes to pay his respects to his friend at his home on the Oregon coast and finds more than he ever expected. I will have to read the next book in the series when it comes out later this year.
"My first by Brickmann but now want to read more"
a fun read
how really screwed up some parents can be
Izzy's internal dialog was pretty funny.
This was my first book of Suzanne Brockman's after hearing good things about her stories. I guess I shouldn't have started with the 17th book in the series so it took me a while to figure out the characters but it still a good read. Once i figured out all the characters I really enjoyed the book and the writing style. After this I will have to add more of Brockman's book to my to be read list.
"Not your usual intense mystery"
The teenage boys watching a video they liked by peering through the priest's window into his home.
I listened to the audio version of this book. It was an OK story that was well told but just not my usual intense mystery/thriller. This was a slight mystery/drama set in the late 80's on an Indian reservation and told from a 13 year old boy's perspective. I will say there are some very funny moments with the 13 year old boy and his buddies.
"an affair to kill for!"
suspense, mystery, romance
the characters were a great fit for a great setting to tell the story
This was my first book by Marie Force.I really enjoyed this book, the characters and the storyline. The plot kept you guessing, especially figuring the why. The book starts with a Senator's chief of staff discovering the Senator murdered in his home (with a certain part of his anatomy cut off and crammed in his mouth - yes, this is all in the first chapter). That definitely piqued my interest. Detective Sam (Samantha) Holland is called to the murder scene and finds a "hook-up" from 6 years prior is the chief of staff, Nick, who called in the murder. The book continues with the rekindling of the relationship between Sam and Nick while looking for the killer and into the complicated life of the murdered Senator, who was also Nick's closest friend. There was a good mix of suspense, mystery and romance in this book. This was a great read and I am looking forward to reading (or listening too) the other books in this series.
"Emotionally draining but a great book"
yes, this is a great book with a sad but intriguing storyline
well of course Diaz was my fave character.
no listened to this on my way to/from work and while working out
A friend has recommended this book to me and a few weeks ago it was on sale (gotta love sales) on Audible.com so I picked it up. I'm glad I did. This was a great read! The story starts out with Milla's 6 week old son being stolen out of her arms and her almost fatally wounded. The story progresses with the search for her son for over 10 years. Along the way she finds/meets Diaz who she thinks may have had something to do with her son's kidnapping. Diaz, is a known as a lone wolf and assassin kind of guy, the ultimate kind of "bad boy' we all like to read about. His character reminds me a lot of Ranger from the Stephanie Plum series but is much better developed than Janet Evanovich has done with Ranger in years. This book can be emotionally draining but is worth the read.
"Another great John Puller book"
yeah, this is a great story with a great plot and great action.
other Baldacci books and even books by authors Crais and Connelly
yeah, they do a great job...just not sure what I thought about the added sound effects
no, listened on my drive to and from work and while working out
I listened to the audio version of this book. First, it was a typical great story we expect from Baldacci. I am a fan of Baldacci and like most of his books and the characters from his books. This was the 2nd book for Army CSI guy, John Puller. There were great twists and turns and finding some of the "bad guys" was surprising. In the audio version we even got some sound effects, which was kind of funny at times but not sure what I thought of that part. As for the reviews saying this was like a Jack Reacher book, I'm not sure. I have only read a few of those so not a lot to go on but I do like Puller's character and after reading so many thrillers/mysteries over the years I'm bound to run into story similarities from time to time. This book does deal with the sad subject of human trafficking and slavery, which made me shudder at the thought. There was also a very high body count in this book but still a great thriller type book with lots of action that made for a fun one to listen to while driving to/from work.
"Not sure what I thought of this book"
the ending
it annoyed me. It felt like something was missing or all the loose ends were not tied up.
I'm not sure what I really thought about this book. The story is told from two women's points of view, Lavinia and Belle and follows them through when Lavinia was a child into adulthood. There were times in the book when I couldn't decide of Lavinia was just oblivious, in denial or just dumber than a bag of rocks and made me want to scream. I tired to feel for her and the situation she got herself into but really couldn't feel much compassion for her. Belle, on the other hand I really liked and admired her will determination in dealing with being half white and a black slave. If anything this books shows the need for communication among people/families. The book is well written and has a good, but depressing storyline when at times you think nothing good ever is going to happen to any of the characters.
"Psycho Killers and some not so smart killers"
I enjoy Lucas and all his sidekicks
I enjoyed this book. I like Lucas Davenport and his sidekicks. This book starts out with a hospital employee working with some robbers to break into the hospital pharmacy and steal a bunch of high end drugs and end up killing one of the pharmacy employees. Davenport's wife, a surgeon at the hospital, inadvertently sees two of the robbers and they set out to eliminate her as a witness. The body count is high in this book as Davenport and colleagues search for the robbers/killers. The killers really do give you the creeps for psychotic killers. This is a great read if you are looking for a great mystery with some great characters.
"An OK book with a higher body count than expected"
yeah, probably
I would actually give this a 3.5 to 4 stars. This was my first Linda Howard book. It was a fun book with a mystery and higher body count than I expected. I will say that Howard does write crazy people very well. If you are looking for a mostly humorous read with a little mystery then this is a good book....it is a tad unrealistic but fun non the less.
