Dr. George K. Simon knows how people push your buttons: your children---especially teens---are experts at it, as is your mate. A coworker may quietly undermine your efforts while professing to be helpful, or your boss may prey on your weaknesses. Manipulative people have two goals: to win and to look good doing it.

Would you listen to In Sheep's Clothing again? Why?

Yes, to learn by heart the strategies offered in this book to manage the umpredictability of character disorders.

Who was your favorite character and why?

There was no favourite character since this is not that kind of book. But I must praise Dr Simon for his uncanning insightfulness into the human psyche.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The clear and frightening description and vignetes about covert agression and manipulation. It was like revisiting some of my life experiences with some very disturbed characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes, indeed!

    Any additional comments?

This is a must read or listen to 'amazing book'. It equips individuals to identify and take protective and affirmative action in the presence of manipulation and covert agression. It clearly describes the typical characteristics of individulas with character disorders and their modus operandi. I would recommend this reading even to young people (over 16). The contents of this book also serve as a mirror to the reader to assess her/his own character and behaviors in the light of individuals who habitually fall on manipulation tactics and covert agression. No human being is immune from practising agression or manipulation at some point in their lives. However, there is an abysmal difference between the habitual practice of covert agression and manipulation and the odd use of the latter. This book aims and does expose the habitual covert agression and manipulation that pervades across all social sections of the population; from family, school, friendships, workplace and the list goes on. I have felt not only equiped to manage manipulative situations but also I felt liberated as I understood aspects of myself that required change to survive the attacks of manipulative and agressive individuals.

It is impossible to change covert agressors and manipulators, specially those who have made an art of their craft. However, it is very possible to change oneself as we identify, resist, confront and denounce manipulation. As Dr Simon says, there are consequences when one takes decisive action. Individuals with character disorders as such do not take kindly being confronted as they dislike 'to loose'. However, the cost is worthwhile. Drawing a line in the sand is necessary to be able to survive psychologically and emotionally in society. There is a saying that goes like this: 'if you don't stop yourself, others will'. We live in a heard-like society. It is time to stop those who cause so much havoc in society and in numbers of good individuals there is power. As Dr Simon states, there has been a misconception about the perception of character disorders and this is changing now. Let us call manipulation when we see it as such, for it is an attempt to gain ground and a higher position of dominance over others. Let us uncover covert agression and name it for what it is, a way to intimidate others into submission.

If you could sum up The Wizard of Oz and Other Narcissists in three words, what would they be?

    The best book on Narcissism

What did you like best about this story?

Everything, the contents, the outline, the depth of knowledge and the vignettes not over reaching but just right. The advice, the summaries at the end of each chapter. The therapeutic approach. It is not a 'tell' book but a didactic and therapeutic work out. I felt healed in so many ways. I had aha! moments. This book went beyond expectations. It was as if I was sitting with a therapist.

Have you listened to any of Cathryn Bond Doyle’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I have not. But I will look for other books.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from The Wizard of Oz and Other Narcissists?

First and most it was a wake up call in terms of identifying narcissistic traits in myself that interfere with my personal growth. No human being is immune to certain narcissistic traits. Specially if one was brought up by parents or carers with extreme narcissistic traits. This is a book that offers a brilliant opportunity to self-reflect and further grow up into a mature and self assured individual. Above all it is a book that helps to heal the wounds inflicted by narcissistic personalities.

Second, it assisted me no end to identify by name, characteristics and the typical narcissistic traits that typify what Doyle calls the the 'Narcissistic Personality Disorder' (NPD). This was a major aha!

Third, it provided me with the reassurance that it is never late to regain one's lost personal power to the NPD individual. I learned about personal strategies which I am memorizing to be able to incorporate them as I deal with the NPD. One example of this is about building boundaries to fend against the corrosive attacks from the NPD individuals I deal with on a regular basis.

    I highly recommend this book!

    Any additional comments?

This book together with 'In sheep's clothing' is the top 5 books ever read. Thank you to Cathryn Bond Doyle!

Would you listen to The Mindbody Prescription again? Why?

Yes, I am going for my second time around listening and I will continue to listen to it until the concepts are second nature. It is healing just to listen to the concepts of this book. I noticed a change within. Dr Sarno's scientific pedigree gives enormous weight to his scientific findings. He guides the listener by the hand through biological and anatomical concepts. This book is a real gem!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Mindbody Prescription?

That I have the power to heal myself. That emotions, though intrinsic to living, important and necessary, if they are out of balance can be very toxic.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The exercises to begin healing the mind and body

What did you learn from The Mindbody Prescription that you would use in your daily life?

To become aware of the physiology of emotions and their effect on the body structures.

    Any additional comments?

Dr Sarno continue to write please. We need to change the outmoded concepts of orthodox medicine

    Number ONE

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bruce Lipton the author has a scientific pedigree that give weight to his scientific expose of what is the very basis of our biological structures and function. He presents the facts, the benefits the issues and the solutions.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Explaining and clarifying the power of Neutonian assumptions of science and orthodox medicine. Also the fact that our genetic print is not fixed, that we can change our environments and thus the detrimental effects on the genetic footprint.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was enlightening, a real breakthrough. No cry or laugh but a big smile for having found out an explanation to so many questions.

    Any additional comments?

Keep writing Professor Bruce Lipton, continue breaking the myths that entrap so many today. You are helping me to heal.
