Here is the story of two families, branches of the Solomons, transported to an alien land. Both branches eventually grow rich and powerful. But through three generations, the families never, for one moment, relinquish their hatred for each other. This novel is also the story of Australia, from its beginnings to its coming of age as a nation.

I think that the reader deserved a better ending than what was given. The trilogy of books were entertaining, interesting, motivational and informative. The books flowed beautifully but unfortunately I think the the reader is robbed by the ending of this book. It was out off character for Ben to behave in the way that he did and so too for Joshua for that matter. One can't paint characters to be strong and intelligent and then make them act like absolute morons. It just left a bitter taste in my mouth. I could have thought of at least 5 better endings which would not take away from the readers perception or intelligence. Anyways, having said my piece I will still highly recommend this book and the two previous as they are amazingly written. Bravo, Bryce Courtenay and thank you for putting pen to paper.

This is Bryce Courtenay's moving tribute to his son, Damon, a hemophiliac who died from medically acquired AIDS on April 1, 1991, at the age of 24. April Fool's Day is controversial, painful and heartbreaking, yet has a gentle humor. It is also life-affirming, and, above all, a testimony to the incredible regenerative strength of love: how when we confront our worst, we can become our best. This tragic yet uplifting story will change the way you think.

Ok, by now we realize that we are in it for the long haul. We need to know what becomes of all of these powerful and wonderful characters. Come on Mr Martin, hurry up already and write, publish, audiobook this novel. The suspense is killing me, I can't sleep at night. Alright I am slightly (ever so slightly) exaggerating. I simply must find out I eagerly check the books availability on a very regular basis....As you can see, I am well enthralled in this series of novels which have a slightly dragged out story line but you must start and the start and become hooked, lined and waiting.

Is this real? This question could be posed in more ways than one. I initially started to list to this book because it was recommended. Knowing little about the story I began listening to it as though it was an actual real life recount. I must say I was well into the novel before a grew a little suspicious and decided to research the book. It is so well written and performed that it is somewhat believable. The end of the book leaves you wanting to read it again to see exactly what has been real within the novel. Well written,. Well performed, I loved the accents.
