England, 1888. Quiet and scholarly Princess Emilie has always avoided adventure, until she's forced to disguise herself as a tutor in the household of the imposing Duke of Ashland, a former soldier disfigured in battle and abandoned by his wife. When chance draws her into a secret liaison with the duke, Emilie can't resist the opportunity to learn what lies behind his forbidding mask and find out what adventure really means. The duke never imagines that his son's tutor and his mysterious golden-haired beauty are one and the same.

    {I won’t give away too much of the the plot or give “spoilers” in any of my reviews.}

This book is more than just a romance novel as it has mystery, fun, adversity, adventure, and murder entwined in this emotionally charged story with many twists and turns. Within the first few chapters I was intrigued by the way the author developed the characters so eloquently and was astonished by the way I felt transported into the life journey of Princess Emilie.

The evolution and chemistry of the relationship between Princess Emilie and the “Hero” was delightful to witness. Emilie is a very intelligent Princess who’s clever spunkiness helps her get out of some tricky situations. The “Hero” is the strong military type with a crazy past. Together they have great chemistry and really are a perfect match. I could go on and on about the other characters and how endearing they are in this wonderful story but I won't keep you any longer from listening to it yourself.

Don't miss this gem....it is worth a credit. I will be preordering book two.

Rachel Rivers is the most beautiful woman that Brand Selby has ever met. From the moment he laid eyes on the proper schoolteacher and watched her tremble beneath his longing gaze, he knew he wanted nothing more than to win her heart. But Rachel lives in a land where hatred for the Indian runs deep, and where she is courted by Texas Ranger Jason Brown, Brand’s sworn enemy.

This is a very sweet love story between Rachel,Rivers, who is a beautiful, , well educated Texan and Brand Silsby who is a handsome, half Indian warrior. This story is very predictable but still kept my interest with its good verses evil and prejudice theme. Its an old-fashioned, easy going, tender story that's hard to resist. I would give this book an overall 3.75 stars.

This story is part of a series and at the end of this book it gives an excerpt of the next in the series "The Oregon Bride". This has peeked my interest even more and will be listening to the next in the series.

This book is one great adventure from beginning to end. This is the story of Cam, who is sworn widower and Joan a young woman who's mother just recently died. They set out on a fast paced adventure that progresses from friendship to romance to love.

It is a well written book that is filled with charming characters, cute fun, adventure, mystery, and romance,. The narrator was wonderful and his accent was so........divine.

This one is worth a try especially if you enjoy highlanders.

Although the English king tried to wrest it away, the Highland Targe - ancient relic and protector of Scottish lands - still lies safely in the hands of clan MacAlpin. But for how long? Jeanette MacAlpin trained her entire life to become the next Guardian of the Targe, but that duty has now fallen to her cousin Rowan - a duty Rowan can't seem to master. Fearful for her clan's future, Jeanette seeks the solace of a sacred wellspring, and there encounters tawny-skinned Highland warrior Malcolm MacKenzie.

    Story

This is the second book in the series "Guardians of the Targe". I would not recommend listening to this book if you haven't listened to the first book "Highlander Betrayed". This series is more of a fantasy type highland romance. The "Powers of the Targe" is actually the centerpiece of the series.

This book builds on the relationship between cousins Rowan and Jeanette and how they deal with Rowan being the Guardian of the Targe. The story delves deeper into the powers they both possess, the battle with the English, their relationships with the clan and their "protectors" (the men in their lives).

I did find it interesting how this series shows women in a more dominant role. The "guardian of the Targe" is in charge of the clan and when she decides to marry, the man has to give up his clan to live with her......interesting concept.

Phil Gigante did a wonderful job narrating this romance. This story isn't a deep historical book but more of a light fantasy that you'd listen to on a lazy day. I will be sure to check out book 3 when it becomes available. .

    Story

This book is one of Hannah Howell's early books and it shows in the writing. It does have some sensual or sexual tension between the main characters but it doesn't seem as strongly developed as in her later books.

I enjoy books that have characters with flaws and Islaen and Iain definitely have issues, one of which takes manipulation to resolve. Islean has low self-esteem with very little "backbone" and Iain suffers with deep fear which manifests into him looking like a jerk most of the time. Together they learn, become closer, and develop a strong bond.

No, this book is not the most spectacular story but it is not a total disaster either. I still found this book to be likable in many areas so I would still give this book 3-1/2 stars. Its an even better listen if you wait and get it on sale!!

This well written Medieval love story is quite different than most because this story is weaved around a generational family feud. Christian and Gaithlin find themselves torn between their passionate love and family loyalties. Its a story filled with adventure, honor, murder, forgiveness, and love.

Each chapter of this book begins with an excerpt of Christian's journal. These tidbits of his life are filled with adoration, deep emotion, challenges, and wisdom, which adds to the believability of this story.

A must read If you enjoy Medieval love stories.

I love historical romances that are written with feeling, detail, character development and good romance....and this book delivered it all for me. It is a classic pirate story with many character twists along the way.

This is one of those books where ALL the characters (even the secondary characters) are written so well that they feel multi-dimensional. The characters have flaws, are vulnerable, and show weakness and strength. Even how the author describes scenery such as flowers or seascapes makes you feel like you can see the vivid colors, smell the sea air, or feel the wind blowing though your hair.

The narrator did an excellent job with this sweet, exciting, romantic, quirky, mysterious story. This is a must listen for anyone who enjoys eloquently written stories.

I listened and enjoyed "Spymaster's Lady" and knew I had to give this book in the series a try. After listening to both I think that "Spymaster's Lady" was better but "The Forbidden Rose" did not disappoint.

This book is written around the history of the French revolution. This intriguing story details the culture for that time period with added suspense, espionage, and romance. The author eloquently writes each character with depth by tapping into their feelings, expressions, and personality.

I am looking forward to other books by this author. If you like stories with history, suspense, espionage, intrigue, and romance give this one a try.

This book is a novella of this series and not a full length novel. I would advise getting the first 3 books before listening to this one because this book elaborates on past events and gives more clarity as to how the Clan members connect while giving glimpses of the future Graham Clan (the next series). The author weaves a captivating tale that is full of mystery and adventure. A must for highlander lovers.

The narrator is wonderful in this series. He does an exceptional job with each voice....doesn't get any better!

This is the second book in the series which follows Findleys journey to bring Maggy and her boys back to the safety of the MacDougall clan. {As I stated in my review of the first book, ‘Laiden’s Daugher’, this is not a historically detailed series but rather light romances with some historical elements}.

This is a feel good adventurous Highland story that is humorous, touching and made me smile more than once. Findley is a Highlander with a big heart. He is so smitten with Maggy that he becomes a fool for love and even lacks judgment at times. Maggy is a strong mother of 5 who tends to be overly secretive, sensible and melodramatic. Findley, Maggy, the boys, Wee William and the highlanders embark on an adventure to heal the wounds of the past and build on hope and love for the future. The narration was great!

If you enjoy a good Highland Romance story without detailed sex scenes then this book is for you.
