"Great Book"
Really enjoyed this book. Learned alot of new history that I had not known before. Author wrote the book in a way that was very easy to follow and really brought out the personalities of the main actors in the events. Strongly recommend.
"Ben saves the world"
Good description of how the different Fed actors work together.
The book was narrative, so no characters are performed.
The book really gives you a sense of how much the financial system froze up during 2008 and 2009 and how much the Fed and other agencies had to do to save Wall street from itself.
"Great Read"
NO, don't reread books. Too many good ones out there.
Maybe Empires of the Sea, in terms of scope.
Description of the political culture of Rome and the United States.
I thought it was a really good read. Learned alot about Rome and how the empire was founded and developed.
"Great Read"
I was only 13 when the Embassy was taken over, and I well remember the images of our diplomats being praded in front of the cameras. While I am sure there is alot more of the story out there, I learned alot about the takeover and the runup to it from this book.
"Great sweeping book"
Really enjoyed this book. The author takes a sweeping view history, covering events from the ancient Greeks through the Romans and to the present day. While told from a bit of UK perspective, I learned alot, especially concerning the French occupation of Egypt and the long term ramifications of that. He gets a few of his dates wrong toward the end concerning the US invasion of Iraq, but overall a good book. My only other comment is that his conclusions seem a bit muddled at the end concerning whether there is a permanent conflict between the West and the Islamic world simply based on their religious/ideological bases.
"Terrific"
Just a classic and very well told. Short, so you can listen to it in just a few days.
"Interesting, conservative, long"
This is definitely a very sweeping book. The author takes a view somewhat counter to other histories I have read. While I learned alot, as I got more into material I was famliar with, I could more clearly see that the author has a very conservative view on history. Nixon's actions were not illegal, but extra legal, for example. 30 hours is also a very very long listen. So I am not sure if I could recommend this one.
"Good Book but not what was expected"
Overall I enjoyed the book very much. That being said it was a bit short of what I expected. Most of the material was on Grant, with much less on Sherman, Lee and Davis. The author did provide alot of good material on the Mexican war, appreciated for those of us who don't know alot about it. Overall I would recommend the book.
