I really enjoyed this well rounded story. It had intrigue, lots of humor, and during the first quarter, danger. Danger for the plans of each and every scheming character who was going to solve all their problems by "using" the others. Then what happens? LOVE.
Don't really care for the narrator's accent tho...

Three years after the unprovoked attack on a peaceful colony, the war between the Rojok dynasty and the Tri-Galaxy Fleet rages on. Born of that war is the Morcai Battalion, a fleet comprised of Centaurians and humans - the first collaboration of its kind and a step toward an intergalactic alliance. But the fragile union is tested as their courageous commander in chief, Dtimun, is faced with the temptation of the forbidden - and human - Dr. Madeline Ruszel.

Where does The Recruit rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is definitely one of the top ten in my Sci Fi books I read in the last year.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Madeline Ruszet, the exobiologist. She's smart, tough, and holds her own with all those military men around - cause she's a marine as well as a doctor of aliens. Which is what makes the Captain so mad cause she ALWAYS manages to carry a sidearm on away missions which just happens to be illegal for medical personnel. It just makes it worse that she has saved his butt twice. lol

    Which scene was your favorite?

When she saves the "baby white snake" from the charging "bull" by calling to the bull's natural enemy, which is a huge hawk-like bird, in the bird's own language. Causing Two Birds to come chase off the bull. To thank her, the little snake, momma snake, and daddy snake ALL come and rub her face while purring!

    Any additional comments?

This book had more in it about the "attraction" between the Captain and Ruszet. To him, she is now Prey. If he "catches" her, he can/will kill her. Also if he sees any other male flirt or even touch her - he's a dead man. But there is this mysterious Time Traveler who keeps saying "Everything will be fine. BTW, I have worked out this special formula..."

A ragtag band of humans from the Terravegan colonies fights the Rojok invaders and their ship is destroyed. Rescued by the Centaurian commander of the terror-inspiring Holconcom, the humans must learn to live with their hostile alien counterparts when they are captured by the Rojoks and thrown into the galaxy's most horrible prison camp. The female exobiologist has to save the life of the alien commander in order to save her captain, her comrades, and herself. This is a rocket ride full of action, humor, and sacrifice.

If you like Diana Palmer and scifi you will love this book! It starts off with a rescue of children (all species) that were attacked by the Rojok, common enemy of all players in this story. As the medical ship is trying to escape with as many survivors as they can carry - the Rojok come back for a second strike. Just as sure defeat is about to happen, they are saved by the Morcai. A very interesting cat-like race whose emotions show in the changing colors of their eyes. But the Medical ship is lost and the two crews must find a way to live together - sound like Star Trek's Voyager to anybody? Well, it's NOT but Extremely Entertaining to those who like DP and Jack Campbell.

I love the Grant Clan and KM! She handled a story of abuse and PTSD with respect, humility, and mostly love. The average reader may find this story too rough, phyically and emotionally, especially if you look for escape reading. But if you want something that touches your mind, heart, and soul - this one's for you.

I was disappointed with the first 7 Chapters of this book. It was nothing but "woe is me. I just got out of a bad relationship" from Payton, the P.A., who according to the info blurb, is supposed to be falling for the local doc. This doesn't even start, with a BAD pickup line :), until Chapter 8. From then on things happen according to what we are expecting and it becomes a nice story.

In this first book in the Brodies of Alaska series, Lane Bishop follows her heart to a remote Alaskan fishing lodge, where Dylan Brodie and his young daughter await. But the lodge houses a chilling legacy - one that could snuff out Lane and Dylan’s love even as it begins to take hold.

Kat Martin is one of my most favorite authors. Jack Garrett is a wonderful Narrator. Which Brother is next?! I'm ready!!

Books 13 and 14 are about the Murray twins, Atan and Lucas. Their stories are as different as their personalities. After a savage beating and the "death" of his Lady Love, Lucas returns for revenge. Only he finds his Lady Love is already in the process of avenging his believed death - My favorite Part of this Book is a Strong Female Lead Character. So when the two of them get together to "put things to right and settle their believed heartbreaks" sparks fly.

Hannah, please continue to give us lots more of the Murray family! I love it.

ATF Special Agent Tobias Burke is undercover in West Virginia, infiltrating a militia led by Captain Dylan Connelly, suspected of murdering the Secretary of Defense. Dylan, once the Army's battalion leader of Mortuary Affairs, now works as a physician at the local Veterans Hospital, while leading her late-father's Seventh Amendment Militia. When Tobias Burke shows up to enlist, with his ladies-man humor and lovable Labrador retriever, Dylan knows his killer charm hides an ulterior motive. As evidence against Dylan mounts, Tobias's instincts-and then his heart-betray him into wondering if Dylan is being framed. Now, with Dylan's militia locked in a stand-off with the FBI and the nation watching the drama unfold on television, Tobias stares down the barrel of the most difficult choice in his life: expose the real killer and clear Dylan's name, or follow orders.

Honestly I bought this book only because I like redheads. The story and character development was a delightful surprise. From "real people" in the community making up the soliders in the militia to the bond that develops almost immediately between Tobias and Dylan. Their struggles, hers with PTSD and his with the Dylan he comes to know vs. who her file says she is, are totally on the mark and lead to a breathtaking ending. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes romance, intrigue, and muscles.

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s easy to say that when it comes to sci-fi you either love it or you hate it. But with Ender’s Game, it seems to be you either love it or you love it.... The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Enter Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, the result of decades of genetic experimentation.

    Story

I seldom read SciFi books but after reading all the exciting reviews, I decided to give it a try. I was entralled with the story in about 10 minutes and was literally biting my lip til the end. The idea of a child being groomed for leadership in a 'planetary defense" plan just didn't seem right to me but I soon forgot his age until the story reminded me of it.

For those who like to read books in the order of events instead of publishing dates, I am going to reprint the list that I found so helpful that "Joe, from California" mentioned in a review that I can't find again:

    Ender's Game
    Ender's Shadow
    Shadow of the Hegeman
    Shadow Puppets
    Shadow of the Giant
    Speaker for the Dead
    Xenocide
    Children of the Mist
First Meeting - a collection of short stories that fill in small details that is recommended after finishing the series.

    Thank You, Joe.

91 year-old Ira Levinson is kept concious after a car wreck by visions of his late wife, Ruth, who recounts stories of their lifetime together. A few miles away, at a local rodeo, Sophia Danko, a senior at Wake Forest, meets a young cowboy named Luke. Ira and Ruth. Sophia and Luke. Two couples who have little in common. Yet their lives will converge with unexpected poignancy, reminding us all that even the most difficult decisions can yield extraordinary journeys: beyond despair, beyond death, to the farthest reaches of the human heart.

A great homage to what Real Love is Like: as an older man's memories pass through over 4 decades, a World War, challenges that are overcome and rejoiced over due to living life as Couple dedicated to each other. Also we get to meet a modern young couple learning what Real Love is: how to recognize it, how to show it, support the one you love, and how to take a leap of faith.

If any art lovers are out there, you will get a kick out of the collection of "eccentric" artists that Ira and Ruth collect over their lifetime that leads to an amazing Auction twist at the end that I really didn't see coming at all. (I would name a few artists but I am afraid that my spelling of their names would be disrespectful).

If any bullriders or Rodeo fans out there, you will get a thrilling view of life on the Circuit as well.
