  • Working Stiff

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 32 mins)
    • By Tori Carrington
    • Narrated By Allyson Ryan

Sofie's getting her feet under her as a PI and business is booming. So much so that she's hired her layabout cousin and a one-time petty criminal as "boys of all work". Okay, so her reputation's become, well, complicated - everyone in Astoria, Queens, knows that from time to time she shoots one of her own clients - but on the whole, she's getting a lot more respect than when she was best known for leaving her groom at the altar.

    Susan says: "Sofie done wrong...."
"how much longer is this thing?"

I have enjoyed the beginnings of the Sofie Metropolis series but will have to agree with the other reviewer that this book is NOT very good and it is certainly NOT enhanced by the lifeless rendition of the characters by the narrator. Unfortunately, in a talking book, everything rests on the narrator's shoulders...the ability to make a so-so book better not the least of it! The narrator did not step up to the plate on this one...nor did the writers.

  • Texas! Lucky

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 19 mins)
    • By Sandra Brown
    • Narrated By Coleen Marlo

Lucky Tyler attracted trouble and women like a lightning rod. But the night he stepped in to rescue a mysterious redhead in a seedy bar, he got more than he bargained for! The lady excited him, challenged him, drove him wild with desire then vanished without a trace. Lucky was desperate to find her, to brand her with his heat and when the police were called in to investigate a suspicious fire at Tyler Drilling, his family business, he needed her for an alibi!

Dana says: "I enjoyed this story and performance."
    "so disappointing"

I am embarrassed that I bought this. I should have paid attention to when Brown wrote it. It is the first book in the Texas series and it is not far removed from a harlequin romance. Truly, Brown was in her earliest stage of becoming the writer she is today. Making it even worse, the narrator was a woman, always a mistake when the main character is a man. Colleen Marlo has difficulty doing a Texas accent, making her Texans sound like the deep south. Hey y'all...Texas accents are NOT the same as Alabama.

    "Not appropriate"

As a librarian, I thought I would try out this audiobook aimed at the 12 - 15 age group. I was very disappointed. Even though it is difficult for me to view this from a "tween" perspective it is easy to say as a children's librarian that this is not well done nor age appropriate for the intended audience. Words are frequently mispronounced by the reader and accents are not consistent. In addition, the topics include casual sex, language, light usage of drugs and alcohol by underage students. I was disappointed. The author appeared to believe that by dropping expensive labels the book would be readable. The author was wrong and the writing was not enhanced by the reading.

  • Revenge of the Middle-Aged Woman

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 37 mins)
    • By Elizabeth Buchan
    • Narrated By Jean Gilpin
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

For twenty-five years, Rose Lloyd has juggled marriage, motherhood, and career with remarkable success. But the carefully managed existence to which Rose has become accustomed comes crashing down around her when her marriage and her career both fall apart. Can Rose start over? Not easily. But it's amazing what prolonged reflection, the slimming effect of a lost appetite, and a new slant on independence will do, especially when an old flame suddenly reappears.

Sandra L. Personette says: "Don't miss this wonderful book!"

This book was an unexpected surprise. The narrator captured the mood of the story superbly. This is a perfect book for a woman to read at a certain stage of her life. I could not put it down. I am adding all of Elizabeth Buchan's book to my shopping cart. Wonderful read. Highly recommended.

  • Peach Cobbler Murder

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 46 mins)
    • By Joanne Fluke
    • Narrated By Suzanne Toren

Georgia transplants Shawna Lee and Vanessa have opened a bakery to rival Hannah's own. But when one of the Southern belles is murdered, Hannah must find the killer before she herself becomes a suspect.

    Richard says: "Prefer other"
"This peach cobbler was made with saccharin"

This book is so sickeningly sweet that you will need to schedule a dental appointment afterwards.
I felt as though I was being taught manners by a 70 year old woman with a Swedish accent.
Words were defined for the reader as if English is a second language.
In a fit of anxiety that I would empty my ipod audiobooks over the holidays I overdosed on Joanna Fluke and will never make that mistake again.

  • Blue Christmas

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 3 mins)
    • By Mary Kay Andrews
    • Narrated By Isabel Keating
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

It's the week before Christmas, and antiques dealer Weezie Foley is in a frenzy to deck out her shop for the Savannah historical district decorating contest, which she intends to win. Weezie is ready to shoot herself with her glue gun by the time she's done, but the results are stunning. She's certainly one-upped the owners of the trendy shop around the corner, but suddenly things start to go missing from her display and there seems to be an uninvited midnight visitor to her shop.

Summer says: "The jury is still out..."
"the right book for the right moment"

I packed my ipod with lots of Christmas enjoyment and this book was one of my choices. I enjoyed it very much. It was light and sweet and perfect with a cup of coffee, a pair of scissors, a wee bit of tape, and presents to wrap. This was the perfect book for the moment: what more can you ask?
